JD297 IT Network Technician I Job Description Purpose:
To provide on-demand assistance and support for district network users to ensure network systems are providing efficient and reliable connectivity across the district on approved devices.

Qualifications: 1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. One or more years of hardware service and repair experience. 3. One or more years of experience providing basic support for computer networks preferred. 4. One or more years of experience providing basic support for wireless connectivity preferred. 5. One or more years of experience providing basic support for telecommunications systems preferred. 6. One or more years of experience providing basic support for Windows Servers preferred. 7. One or more years of experience providing basic support for virtualization preferred. 8. One or more years of experience providing basic support for network security systems preferred. 9. Some experience using service desk, asset, and inventory management systems preferred. 10. Willingness to adapt and innovate in all areas of technology. 11. Possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. 12. Basic IT networking certifications preferred.
Essential Functions: 1.
Knowledge, Skill and Abilities a. Review system monitors and logs; monitor service desk tickets; answer calls; and assist customers with common network connectivity issues over the phone, email, web, and in-person in a timely, friendly, and professional manner. b. Evaluate, diagnose, and resolve reported problems when possible or escalate when necessary. c. Assist department staff with problems relating to daily or routine network or device usage. d. Provide department staff with input regarding more complex network problems. e. Identify, research, document, and communicate system malfunctions and developing issues and formulate and initiate corrective action to restore services in a timely manner. f. Troubleshoot, support, and maintain wired and wireless networking, telecommunications, network security, virtualization, and server hardware, software, and cloud-based systems. g. Conduct preventative maintenance on wired and wireless networking, telecommunications, network security, virtualization, and server hardware, software, and cloud-based systems. h. Review and continuously update and improve documentation for IT staff and customers. i. Maintain a thorough and accurate inventory of district networking, telecommunications, security, virtualization, and server hardware, software, and cloud-based assets and ensure legal compliance. j. Ability to research and implement solutions to complex technology issues. k. Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team with little or no supervision. l. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, stressful, and rapidly changing environment while meeting deadlines. m. Ability to learn complex systems independently, quickly, and effectively. n. Ability to communicate complex technology concepts in an easy-tounderstand, non-technical manner. o. Ability to follow complex instructions, both written and verbal. p. Ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions. q. Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Execute deployment of technology projects as directed. 2. Provide district users with guidance in resolving technology issues by providing information or referring them to the appropriate personnel. 3. Reinforce safety at district locations by observing placement of cabling and other technology equipment. 4. Utilize support management software as appropriate to assigned tasks. 5. Support network functions on all district approved devices. 6. Evaluate symptoms of malfunctions for determining possible causes. 7. Advise network users of alternative approaches if operator error is determined to be the cause. 8. Resolve problems by taking appropriate actions relative to the specific problem. 9. Perform basic, minor repairs or installations at site. 10. Document processes undertaken to resolve problems in appropriate ticketing system. 11. Support the value of an education. 12. Support the philosophy and mission of Derby Public Schools. 13. Adhere to all district health and safety policies. 14. Comply with all district policies, rules, and regulations. 15. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology and/or technology department supervisors, which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications of the position.
