JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: DEVELOPMENT MANAGER Position Description Invest Detroit is seeking a highly motivated and energetic Development Manager with a passion for the city of Detroit. This is a key position in emerging opportunities for Invest Detroit’s growing visibility and a unique role that spans all facets of the organization. The Development Manager will be responsible for the grants calendar and helping the organization identify new funding opportunities, while also playing a key role in strengthening the organization’s internal processes and data tracking, and in increasing external visibility. The position will report to the Senior Vice President of External Relations who oversees fundraising, marketing, and communications. Key Responsibilities Development • Work with staff to execute and support a fundraising plan that includes the identification of new funding opportunities • Actively research and propose new prospects and create prospect briefs • Manage the development of a CRM system and other solutions to improve fundraising processes and data tracking • Act as lead in the initial development of new proposals • With support from the SVP of External Relations, work with staff to identify key metric points • Co-create and manage a plan to keep data current and accurate and identify better ways to communicate impact and successes • Co-create a data-management plan to ensure that data is current and accurate • Assist with funder cultivation and stewardship strategies including setting up meetings and drafting funder communications and reports Grants Management • Manage the calendar of grant activity from initial LOI to final proposal and ongoing reporting • Act as point person for staff participating in grant creation and ensure materials are submitted on time • Serve as lead writer for proposals or proposal sections that are organizational overviews • Oversee preparation of supporting documents for grant applications; work closely with the Controller to build program budgets and fund use reports • Maintain correspondence with current and prospective funders to ensure they receive ongoing updates on programs and organization’s growth • Research and identify new prospective institutional funders • Maintain database records in addition to thorough and complete electronic files

• Ensure grant terms are completed Other Responsibilities • Provide critical planning and logistical support for special events • Help generate social media content and ensure consistency with the Brand and Style Guide • Assist with funder cultivation and stewardship through crafting solicitations • Assist with organizational writing needs and special projects Competitive salary, commensurate with experience, and excellent benefits Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 3 years experience in a nonprofit development role that includes some grant management and proposal-writing responsibility • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communications skills with a focus on clarity and accuracy • A clear and creative thinker with exceptional judgment, strong organizational and project management skills with a commitment to results • Ability to recognize and maximize opportunity on behalf of the organization • Flexibility and a demonstrated ability to flourish in a nimble and entrepreneurial environment • Goal-oriented, project-oriented, and achievement-oriented • Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) required; experience with Salesforce or other CRM tools preferred; experience with InDesign, Publisher, Illustrator and Photoshop a plus About Invest Detroit Invest Detroit is a rapidly growing nonprofit and certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) at the forefront of the revitalization efforts in the city of Detroit.
