urious about camping? Don’t have a tent or sleeping bag? No worries. Let’s Go Camping lets you try it out with our gear.

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to offer a summer series of guided weekend group outings for beginning campers of all ages. With hands-on lessons, nature hikes and fun family activities, Let’s Go Camping makes camping easy. Only $30 for the entire family.

All events feature these sessions: • Camping basics & tent set-up • Equipment care & maintenance • Leave No Trace (outdoor ethics) • The 10 Essentials of safe hiking • Fire building & safety • Campfire & Dutch oven cooking

To Register: • Choose a park and a weekend. Hurry – spots fill quickly! • Call 888-953-7677 M-F, from 8am – 5pm. Sessions begin Saturday at 10am. Campers may choose to arrive Friday after 4pm – 2 nights for the price of 1! Depending upon your chosen park, activities may include ranger-led hikes, kid’s programs, tide pooling, disc golfing, swimming, arts & crafts.

2013 Camping Locations June 14-16 1 Tumalo, where the sweet smell of sage and juniper wafts beside the beautiful Deschutes River. Wildlife viewing and scenic hiking trails. June 21-23 2 Umpqua Lighthouse In the heart of the Oregon Dunes. Fishing, swimming in Lake Marie, and trails through the forest, to the dunes and to the lighthouse. 3 Milo McIver Premier 27-hole disc golf course and a fish hatchery along the Clackamas River. Short drive from Portland. June 28-30 4 The Cove Palisades First-class hiking, kayak tours and the Crooked River Petroglyph. 5 Beverly Beach Great beach for sand castle building, kite flying and surfing. A creekside trail and forest-sheltered campground are just a few steps from the ocean. 6 Champoeg, one of Oregon’s iconic July 12-14 parks, has an interpretive center, historic barn, heirloom garden and living history demonstrations. July 19-21 7 Joseph H. Stewart On Lost Creek Reservoir surrounded by forest, mountains and 11 miles of trail. Swim, fish, rent a boat from the marina, visit a local fish hatchery. 8 Nehalem Bay Stunning beaches with excellent crabbing and fishing. Wake up to the sound of seagulls and hike beside the bay. July 26-28

9 Willamette Mission A significant historic site along the Willamette River. Mission Lake, open meadows with native birds, flowers, big shade trees and 13 miles of hiking trails. (special Spanish language event for Latino audiences – group camp allows up to 50 people)

July 26-28 10 Sunset Bay One of the most scenic parts of the south coast. Rugged cliffs, incredible vistas, sandy beaches. Enjoy beachcombing, hiking coast trail, and botanic garden at sister park – Shore Acres. August 2-4 11 Wallowa Lake One of Oregon’s best-kept secrets. The lake, surrounded by mountains, is an angler’s dream and a hiker’s delight. Well worth the drive. 12 Jesse M. Honeyman Freshwater lakes for fishing, swimming and boating. Huge sand dunes. August 9-11 13 Silver Falls, Oregon’s largest state park. More than 10 waterfalls amid lush green forests. Historic cabins, interpretive programs and 25 miles of hiking trails. August 16-18 14 Cascadia An historic bridge, dense forest, swimming holes and a trail to Soda Creek Falls. 15 Cape Lookout Beautiful beaches, vistas and plenty of hiking trails through lush, old-growth forest. August 23-25 16 South Beach offers kayak tours, beachcombing, beautiful ocean sunsets and plenty of opportunities to learn about local marine life. 8 15 5 16 12 2 10
