LIFE ON THE STREET Even though it have been over 70 years since India has got its independence, but still the poverty in India haven’t been wiped out completely. There are many homeless children in India who are forced to work on their own for a single meal for the day. If they couldn’t find the work for themselves they are compelled for begging in the streets. Even they look into the garbage seeking for a piece of food to kill their hunger. The children and their parent can’t be blamed for this massacre as the parents are uneducated and therefore can’t find any work thus cannot afford to earn a standard living for their children and themselves. This how the children in our country are being forced to be begged in the streets. This changes a child’s mentality to get a piece of food somehow either by begging, looting or even by theft for their survival. This is why these children are being called as criminals by the public. Homeless children don’t have any shelter, piece of bread and the main factor they are missing is their childhood which has to be one of the best and important parts of their life, as it the foundation of their successful future.

Child Mafia Infact, the reality is that there is a mafia working behind these street children. On the basis of a report published in national daily, it was mentioned that they have divided and assigned areas for the children for begging. They have to submit their earning of the day to their BOSS who is incharge of that area. And now, do you think it is a small amount? Never, this makes these mafia rich and richer day by day and divides it among these cruel leaders. A girl child who comes of an age will be sold to different sex rackets. We have to understand one thing that all these things are happening in a world’s largest democracy. Words from my experience Bangalore, Railway station 12251/WaingGanga SF Express It was about 10 pm when I entered the railway station. I walked to my train with my friends; I had to go to another platform. Before entering that platform, one homeless lady stopped me carrying an infant with her; even one man was with her. Suddenly I turn back asked “kya hua”. She asked me “sirji aapko hindi aathi hai?” I said yes. We all know that in south India, people rarely communicate in Hindi. Then she started explaining about their story that they are new here, they don’t know ‘kannad’ and they are starving for 2 days. They needed help. I gave them 10 rupees that was the max I could do that time.

But now, I stepped on to my train, took my respective seat and it was near the window. After few minutes another lady with an infant with her and a man knocked on my hand and asked me “sirji aapko hindi aathi hai?” I said yes. Then she started explaining about their story that they are new here, they don’t know kannada and they are starving for 2 days. They needed help. Hearing this me and my friend was shocked… how could this happen, I shared this with the co passengers in my opposite birth, even they told me the same… but in reality It was a part of a perfect drama planned by the mafias who is making the money out of it. What we understand from this……………. that the lady is trained for this drama. They knows who are the natives and who are outsiders of that town. So what we can do? Have you heard about Child line 1098. It’s the duty of all the citizens of the country to raise their voice against these cruelties. Your one phone call saves the life of the children from the streets. Please don’t provide money to the children instead provide them food. Hey Travellers, carry packet foods in your car so if they knock on your windows open it up, provide them food or biscuts or whatever eatable u may have with you that time and dial 1098. Please…. For our Nation. Thankyou, Jaihind Vishnu Gupta From- School of Public Health, Eternal University, Himachal Pradesh, India. Email id- [email protected]
