Dear CW Families, I sent out a letter to our families earlier this morning. I have also attached it to the eNews in case you did not see it. I appreciate all of the support you have shown me over the past four years and will miss our CW family. It was an exciting day at CW today as our first group of 4th grade student visited CW. It was so fun to see their excitement as they toured the school with their Pen Pals!

M-Step As parents, you should be so proud of the effort put forth by our #cwthinkers on the 5th and 6th grade M-Step. While testing, our students were excited to celebrate the knowledge they have learned this year and the thinking they have made visible!

May 19, 2017 Dear CW Families, Since moving here four years ago, Central Woodlands’ staff, students, and parents have become a second family, which I love and enjoy leading. The opportunity to learn and grow among our CW community has been such a rewarding professional experience. It is with mixed emotions that I write this letter to inform you that I will be leaving my position as principal of Central Woodlands at the end of this school year to become the principal of Forest Hills Northern Hills Middle School. The decision to leave our learning community at Central Woodlands was not one I came to easily. Our district has a process in place to determine the next leader of Central Woodlands. Forest Hills is a world-class school district, which will attract many outstanding candidates to lead CW. I am confident this process will result in finding a new principal that will continue the culture of caring and thinking at Central Woodlands. I will work in partnership with the incoming principal to ensure a smooth transition for our staff, students, and families. Our Central Woodlands community is a very special place and one I will always consider to be a home. I am proud of the work and passion of our teaching staff and students. The culture of caring and thinking our “CW Thinkers” have created has been a model for the entire district. More than anything, I have appreciated the support from families, and relationships I developed at Central Woodlands. It has been a gift to be part of your child’s journey! Sincerely, David Simpson, Ph.D.

CENTRAL WOODLANDS SPLASH BASH – June 2, 2017
We are excited to have our annual celebration at the end of the year Splash Bash! This is an annual tradition that allows our students to have fun with their friends at the end of our school year. This year, Splash Bash will be at the Kroc Center located on 2500 Division Ave. S, Grand Rapids. During part of the time, students will enjoy their indoor pool that does feature a zero-depth option for students who prefer not to swim. Additionally, there will be other activities for students who do not want to swim. The other part of the experience will allow students to enjoy the outdoor activities and games at the Kroc Center. A giant slip and slide is part of these activities! Girls need to have a one piece or tankini type of bathing suit for this school activity. If your child does not own a one piece or tankini, they may wear a shirt over their two piece bathing suit. 5th graders & their teachers will depart CW at 9:00 am & return to school by 12:00 pm. They will eat when they return to CW. 6th graders & their teachers will eat an early lunch at 10:30 am, depart CW at 11:00 am & return to school by 2:00 pm. Please encourage your student to bring a snack for later in the day. Students should bring a bag to carry their swim suit and towel. In addition, students should have clothes that day that can be used for indoor activities in case of rain. Please sign the permission form and return it along with $8.00 (checks payable to Central Woodlands) by Thursday, May 27, 2017 to your homeblock teacher. No child will be denied the opportunity due to financial concerns.
Please return lower half of this form by Thursday, May 27, 2017 *****************************************************
