Despite their economic importance, knowledge regarding diversity of spider mites in the Balkans is incomplete

Our recent research data from a four-year survey of cultivated plants and native vegetation around the country raised the number of spider mite species recorded in Serbia from 17 to 36

Diversity of spider mites has been studied with emphasis on agricultural and other economic plants
Natural vegetation is a potentially important source of species which may colonize cultivated plants. This is the reason why spider mites inhabiting weeds, adjacent and surrounding vegetation, forest remnants, ruderal plants have been studied as well. WEEDS CROP PLANTS

PROTECTED NATURAL AREAS
Natural vegetation in national parks and other protected natural areas is also important in terms of biodiversity conservation
With the noteworthy exception of Brazilian forests and savannas, protected areas have not been in research focus of acarologists.
