Abstract
The Koka Reservoir is one of the largest reservoirs in Ethiopia located in the catchment of the Awash Basin. It was constructed for the purpose of hydropower generation, irrigation and flood mitigation. Since its impoundment, it was affected by serious sedimentation. In this paper it was attempted to disclose the previous efforts of modeling the sedimentation processes in the reservoir numerically, and to come up with a new 2DH model for it. The flow solver utilized is BUBBLE. The sediment transport and morphodynamic model employed for this purpose is TIMOR3V4B. Both models are developed at the Institute of Hydraulic and Water Resources Engineering at Darmstadt. The 2DH model constructed for the reservoir reproduces the stagestorage curves amicably, but it faces problems in reproducing the observed cross-sections.
