Multinational Divisional Headquarters in the Baltics Why establish a divisional headquarters? NATO along with the Baltic Allies have identified a need to establish a new divisional headquartes in the Baltics, with the main purpose to command NATO troops deployed in the area. The divisional headquarters will be part of NATO’s Force Structure and strengthen NATO’s deterrence and defence posture, support the defence plannig of the Baltic countries and enhance the strong defence and security ties between Denmark and the Baltic Aliies. Why have Denmark taken the initiative to establish a divisional headquarters? Denmark have, in close dialog with NATO and Allies, examined possible further contributions to NATO’s collective deterrence and defence in the Baltic Sea region. Safeguarding peace and security in the region reamains a core interest of Denmark. Thus Denmark has taken the initiative to establish a divisional headquarters together with Estonia, Latvia and other Allies.

The headquarters will be established through four phases. Firstly, during the establishing phase in 2019, approximately 100 Danish soldiers will be involved in the establishment of the headquarters, with 20 of them being deployed to the Adazi branch and 80 to the Karup branch.
