Throwing A Holiday Bash On A Budget Who doesn’t love the holidays? It’s a great time to gather with family and friends and celebrate the season. If you’re tasked with throwing this year’s holiday bash, we have some great ideas to make your event a hit, without your bank account taking a hit.
Set a budget and stick to it We know the holiday season is all about giving, but you don’t have to give away the farm. Set a realistic budget and aim to stay under it. Be sure to give yourself a little extra padding for unexpected expenses. And don’t forget to allocate a few extra dollars for that cocktail dress you’ve been eyeing.
Host a potluck dinner This is a great way to keep catering costs down. Plus, people love to show off their favorite holiday recipe, even if it is storebought cookies they placed in a holiday tin and pass off as their great, great grandmother’s secret recipe. Ask guests to share the special dish they are bringing with their RSVP to ensure there is plenty of variety.
Throw an afternoon cocktail party Instead of spending hundreds of dollars and endless hours creating a menu to satisfy everyone’s taste buds, bump the party time up a few hours and enjoy an afternoon cocktail party. Put your festive thinking cap on and come up with a few signature drinks like a Ginger Bell Cocktail or a Hot Peppermint Rod. The internet is full of fun and easy to make cocktails that won’t break the bank.
Decorate on a dime Don’t spend outlandish amounts of money to make your home look like a winter wonderland for one night. Pinterest is full of super festive and super cheap ideas using everyday items you already have. Glue some ornaments to a paper plate with the center cut out and add a candle, fill a vase with candy canes, wrap a few pictures to look like presents and hang them back on the wall. The possibilities are endless.
BYO … Signature holiday drink Trying to provide cocktails that all will enjoy can add up quickly. As the host, stick to beer and wine. Encourage your guests to make their own signature cocktail and bring it along to share. Being a responsible host is always in style, so make sure party-goers have a safe way to get home. Either be prepared to make your sofa available, or send them home in an Uber. Have a safe and fun holiday season!
