Majestic old oaks Ancient woodland

The arboretum’s array of trees Yellow and orange hues of hazel

Wyre is one of the largest ancient oak woodlands in England making it one of the best places to visit in autumn as the trees offer up vivid colour displays of burnished golds, yellows and oranges.

1

Walking from the car park, turn right as you’re facing the Forest Cafe and head out along the path. As you enter the ancient woodland take time to immerse yourself in the trees noticing the crunch of the leaves underfoot and the crisp autumn air.

2

Turn left at the forest road following the green waymarkers. In particular, look out for the golden leaves of alder and the yellow and orange hues of the hazel.

3

Still following the green waymarker, turn left and head down into the ‘Valley of the Giants.’ Don’t forget to look up and take a moment to marvel at the great height of the trees that surround you.

4

Turn right and bring your attention to the quiet babble of the small stream on your right. Walk up the hill and you’ll find a bench, take a moment here to look over Park Pool and admire the vivid colour display behind the water.

5

When ready to continue, follow the path as it bends to the left. Take the next right to head back down the valley.

6

Take the next right to find our secret spot. On entering the Arboretum, look out for the whitty pear tree which is over 100 years old, with its stunning rich coppery red leaves. Once ready to carry on, exit by the same path and rejoin the trail.

7

At the crossroads, continue straight ahead following the green waymarkers as the trail meets the Buzzard trail (red) before they turn left again. At the junction, turn right, down the hill and back up the final climb past the Valley of the Giants and back towards the Wyre Forest Centre.

Secret spot Discover our secret spot and be amazed at the rich coppery red and golden yellow of the Pear and Tulip tree.
