Issues are published quarterly in the last week of March, June, September and December. Journal follows the broad guidelines for good publications practice brought out by the committee on publication ethics (COPE) and recommendations of World Association of Medical Editors. 2. Ethical Considerations Investigation and surgery on human subjects should conform to the guidelines noted in the World Health Organization Chronicle 1976; 30: 360-362. Manuscripts submitted for publication must comply with the following ethical considerations: Informed Consent Informed consent of the patients must be taken before they are considered for participation in the study. Patient identifying information, such

as names, initials, hospital numbers, or photographs should not be included in the written descriptions. Patient consent should be obtained in written and archived with the authors. Protection of Human Subjects and Animals in Research When conducting experiments on human subjects, appropriate approval must have been obtained by the relevant ethics committees. All the procedures must be performed in accordance with the ethical standards of the responsible ethics committee both (institutional and national) on human experimentation and the Helsinki Declaration of 1964 (as revised in 2008). When reporting experiments on animals, authors must follow the institutional and national guidelines for the care and use of laboratory animals.

It is my proud privilege to present to you the first issue of Journal of Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology, which reflects a knowledge and research of our colleagues in India. What lies before us and what lies behind us is nothing compared to what lies within us. So this journal is giving an opportunity to the people of our faculty for their skills and achievement as it is said ‘when you are curious you find lots of interesting things to do’. Dentistry is evolving at a rapid pace with new year concept and research development both thing fundamental in application research. Keeping abreast with current evidence-based knowledge helps the professional to persue excellence in dentistry. Our constant search of excellence in dentistry remains a challenge. We are committed to continuously reporting new discovery and research, finding and exploring new ideas, methods and advancement technology along with various dimension of learning in dentistry, besides the content we pirate around the numerous material, technique and technologies to enable dental professional to put the knowledge into immediate clinical use. Friends, our academy is growing at faster pace and we are getting a lot of international appreciation for our work. This journal will go internationally and this will help our faculty member to be recognized at the international level. We are always at par with our other faculty colleagues and our international colleagues and we should prepare ourselves to achieve higher standards of research and other activities. We should not demand respect, we should get respect. As this is first effort as the editor-in-chief there may be some shortcoming in the journal. Conference News The XXI National Conference of IAOMR was recently held in the commercial capital city of Madhya Pradesh, Indore. It was an academic delight for all the attending delegates who witnessed deliberations, discussions and debates from renowned National and International faculties on a single platform. The very theme of this conference “Challenges and Triumphs in Oral Medicine and Maxillofacial Radiology” was carefully chosen to aptly reflect the stage that our subject is in today and gave us opportunity to pat our backs and prepare our selves for tomorrow. Day one witnessed a total of nearly 200 scientific paper presentations from postgraduates and faculty member participants. A total of nearly 90 posters were displayed during the mega event. World renowned international speakers which include Dr. Sharon Brooks (University of Michigan, USA), Dr. Peter Morgan (Guy’s, Kings College, London), Dr. Mohammed Parker (University of Western Cape, South Africa) and Dr. Shailesh Kottal (New York University, USA) shared their wealth of knowledge and experience. Under the session titled ‘Challenges faced in the Diagnosis and Management of Oral Dysplastic Lesions’ Dr. Babu Mathew, Dr. Shailesh Lele and Dr. Rajeshwari Annigeri presented exhaustive lectures on the current understanding of the pathophysiology, treatment recommendations and most importantly newer avenues for research in the field. Dr GM Walli, renowned Neurophysician from Karnataka delivered an interesting lecture on ‘Use of Botulinium toxin in the management of Head and Neck disorders’. The lecture ‘distress to eustress’ delivered by Dr. Prem Masand concluded day 2 on a very positive note. Lectures by Dr. Naresh Thukral, Dr Durgesh Bailoor and Dr Jayacandran on important aspects of the subject were well-appreciated by the audience. The Panel Discussion on ‘Standerized Protocol for diagnosis and Treatment of Oral Dysplastic Lesions’ witnessed eminent panelists namely Dr. Babu Mathew, Dr. Shailesh Lele, Dr. Rajeshwari Annigeri, Dr. Freny Karjodhkar, Dr. Rahul Bhowate, Dr. S Shishikanth, Dr. Sunita Gupta and was moderated by Dr. K.S. Ganapathy. The panelists conducted a fruitful discussion and with the collective effort we were able to prepare a guidline for documentation of Oral Dysplastic Lesions. The panel discussion on the topic titled ‘Striving for Diagnosing the Undiagnosed Cases’ was chaired by Dr. Sharon Brooks, Dr. Hemant Umarji and Dr. Shailesh Kottal and was moderated by Dr. Kaustaubh Sansare.
