Tuomo Ruutu tied the game early in the second period with his first goal of the season after Minnesota had taken a 1-0 lead on Andrew Brunette’s power-play goal late in the first. Rookie Jeff Skinner earned his first NHL point with the second assist on Ruutu’s goal, and scored the lone goal in the shootout to earn the win for Carolina.
