The e databa ase reflflects the exxperien nces of the lasst five e yea ars biomon nitoring within the imp plemention of the e EU Water Framewo ork Directive. Samples have been taken fo ollowing g the multi-h habita at-sam mpling princcipless. Sha allow watter bodie es have e been n samp pled with a stand dard EU-ha andne et (m mesh size 500 0 μm, 20 0 samp pling units pe er investigation site). Large er imp pound ded rivers havve been sample ed with h an aiirlift-s sample er (15 5 replicatess per crosss section).

The e benthicc inverttebrate e comm munitie es (sp peciess list plus corre esponding individual abun ndancess) of each site were used to ca alculatte the e sett of metricss that iss curren ntly uttilized to asssess the ecolog gical status of riverrs in Ausstria (De etailed Metho od and d Scre eening g Metthod, Ofen nböck et al. 2010).
