Parent Math Night (3-Part Series)

FEATURING— GERI LORWAY MATH K-6 PARENTS AND TEACHERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND

Fee includes light refreshments.

Are you working with math at home? No tears, no fears. Come and learn how to support your child(ren) in learning math. We will look at key factors in developing a solid ability to work with numbers that is built on “knowing” not counting. This series will be of value to any parent: • • • • •

If you want to learn some math If you want to spend time in rich and engaging tasks with your children to promote and sustain the growth of solid mathematical ability If you home school full or part time and want ideas to teach the math If you feel helpless helping with homework If you worry that your math phobia might rub off on your children

These parent math nights are intended for parents of students in Kindergarten to Grade 6. Our focus will be on understanding how learners move from counting to reasoning about addition and subtraction to “knowing” facts and the differences between addition and multiplication. Strategies for learning multiplication and division cannot rely on counting or adding. Each session will leave you with tasks to use at home and ways to practice with your child (ren).

REGISTRATION NOTES Come to one session, or come to all. The learning will grow and each session will have new information. Bring paper and a pencil. There is no child care available, please make arrangements for your children as these sessions are not intended for children.
