AQUATICS

Thank you for your interest in the Town of High River Aquatics Programs. The programs that we offer are in reflection of the facility space we have available and qualified instructors. With the high demand for our programs there is a possibility that if we do not meet our minimum number of registrants (three), the program will be cancelled. Participants whose program was cancelled will receive a full refund, and depending on availability could transfer to another program. Please know that we will do our best to run all programs. If you are not sure not sure what level to register your child in there are brief descriptions of all the Swim Lesson programs for children from

GENERAL INFORMATION • There are no classes on long weekends. • Parents or guardians must escort their children to and from the pool or washroom during class time; an instructor may not leave the class unattended. • Everyone entering the pool must shower, use the toilet, and blow their nose before the start of every class. • Children must wear a bathing suit; a thermal shirt or shorts are permitted only over a proper bathing suit. • Hair below the ears should be tied back (boys & girls). • Goggles are not recommended for preschool-aged children as they do not become comfortable putting their face in the water. • Goggles are permitted, but not required, for children in Swim Kids levels 1-10. Participants are not allowed to chew gum during lessons. • No outdoor shoes, stroller, food, drinks (other than water), or glass on the pool deck; participants should not eat within 90 minutes of swimming lessons. Photography is only permitted upon permission.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What should I do in case of illness or absence?

If you know your child will be absent for several lessons, please notify the instructor in advance. Participants who experience diarrhea are kindly asked to refrain from using the pool for 72 hours after their last symptom.

What does my child need to bring to lessons?

Your child should bring appropriate swimming attire for swimming distances, jumping in, and participating in some games and activities. For children with longer hair, if long enough to tie back please do so. Goggles can be purchased at Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex.

6 months to 15 years below. In the description you will find what your child will be learning in that program. If you have any questions our staff can help you register in the right level, or we can set you up with a FREE swim assessment. Our assessments are a 5-10 minute evaluation in the water with the child. The Instructor will check the swimmer’s skills and give you clear feedback on where to register your child. *Please contact Raelene (Aquatics Programmer) to set up your free assessment, 403-603-3555*

HELPFUL TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL PROGRAM REGISTRATION • If you have taken swim lessons previously and have the report card, please only register as the instructor noted in the ‘register in’ area on the report card. • If your child has not completed the previous level, please do not register them forward. • If classes are full and you cannot find somewhere to register within your schedule, you may sign up on the wait list for the program and we will do our best to get you in depending on availability. • The Town of High River tries to record participant’s grades after each swimming lesson session in our administration program. Please ask at the reception desk, at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex for a customer service representative to check your child’s last mark, or please speak with a member of the Aquatics staff. • If your child had taken swim lessons at a different pool that does not teach the Red Cross swim program please see the front desk or an Aquatic supervisor for level conversion within programs.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Aquasize / Therapy

AQUASIZE DESCRIPTIONS Intensity - (1) = Therapeutic | (2) = Moderate to Hard | (3) = Max Effort

(2) Aquasize (Deep/Shallow Combo) This class is for all patrons whether you prefer deep or shallow as the instructor designs a class that works for all participants. Some modifications/instruction will be given depending on movements. This is an opportunity to combine the best of both worlds and a great place to strengthen your body.

(2) Shallow Water Workout In this class you will experience a low impact aerobic workout. The water buoyancy supports your body weight, which reduces stress on joints and minimizes pain. This is a great class for people who prefer to keep their feet on the ground while experiencing the benefits of movement in the water.

(2) Deep Water Deep water workouts are a weight training style, using the lack of gravity and the resistance of the water. Participants will be shown the distinctive deep water movements that will activate your core at all times. Deep water is great for people with joint issues who want a great workout, but cannot withstand the high impact of dry land exercise.

(3) Bootcamp This class is a combination of strength and cardio, either shallow or deep. You will experience a new workout each time you come and can expect a challenge.

(1) Aquahealing Back by popular demand this coed class is in shallow water and anchored, no bounce, and no need to know how to swim. The focus of this class is balance, range of motion, flexibility and core. It is a great class for pre and post joint surgery as well as pre-natal. All special equipment will be provided; participants just have to wear a suitable bathing suit. *If you have any medical conditions or injuries please speak with the instructor or lifeguard prior to your class*

If a tree needs to be removed due to health, safety or other reasons, a new tree is planted.

• Located on the east end of 8 Avenue SE (please note that dogs are not allowed in school yards)

Memorial Tree & Bench Program The Town of High River offers a memorial tree program as a way to celebrate a milestone or special moment by creating a lasting legacy in one of our parks. A variety of evergreen and deciduous trees can be purchased each year. Residents can provide their preference on which park the tree is planted in either George Lane Park or Riverside Park. Memorial Trees cost $500 per tree and includes planting, plaque and maintenance. The Town also offers a Memorial Bench program where residents can purchase a commemorative bench and request a park location. The $1,200 purchase price includes the six foot bench and plaque. For more information, or to purchase a Memorial Tree or Bench, please call 403603-3503. To ensure trees are ready to be planted in the spring, orders must be received by the end of January each year.
