Skyfall comes to Birmingham Birmingham will host a special VIP launch and charity premiere of the new James Bond film, Skyfall, on Thursday, October 25. The premiere, which will be held at Cineworld on Broad Street, coincides with the launch of the new IMAX® at the cinema – a giant, slightly curved screen, designed to maximise the audiences’ field-of-view and cinematic experience. The event will raise money for Heart FM’s ‘Have a Heart’ appeal, which has adopted Childline as its 2012 charity. A number of celebrities and VIPs are set to attend the evening, sponsored by Genting Casinos, which will also feature a Bond stunt spectacular on Broad Street, outside the Cineworld complex. The charity premiere of Skyfall follows on from the success of the UK premiere of The Lorax, which was held at Cineworld in July and attended by Hollywood superstar Danny de Vito. Paul Millington, Manager at Cineworld, said:

It’s only fitting that Cineworld is hosting such a prestigious charity premiere of Skyfall, a day after the world premiere in London and before it is released to a national audience. The fact that the premiere ties in with the launch of imax® gives added value to the event, as well as offering Cineworld the opportunity to showcase its fantastic new screen.

The premiere, which is supported by Visit Birmingham, is also being sponsored by a number of partners, including Stratstone Aston Martin, Harvey Nichols Birmingham, Nuvo, Film Birmingham, Heart FM, Birmingham City Council and Prepared PR. Ian Taylor, Commercial Director at Marketing Birmingham, which operates the Visit Birmingham programme, added:

The fact that this is the second major event to be held at Cineworld within a couple of months underlines the city’s credentials as a leading destination for both film and culture. In addition to the charity premiere of Skyfall, the city is also preparing to host the Black International Film Festival and Supersonic Festival in October, which offers an alternative look at the music scene in Birmingham.

The new IMAX at the Broad Street site will offer Birmingham film fans a uniquely immersive cinematic experience, allowing them to enjoy the biggest blockbusters, including Skyfall (UK release date October 26 and the latest blockbuster from the Lord of the Rings Director Peter Jackson, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (UK release date December 14), like never before. The IMAX Experience® combines patented crystal-clear digital projection, powerful digital sound, and customised auditorium geometry.
