Job description We are looking for a graduate student to the Energy Systems division at the Department of Building, Energy and Environmental Engineering. The PhD student will develop state-of-the-art methods and tools for quantifying and evaluate the air quality in cites. The overarching goal is to create the basis for a new integrated process for planning of a healthy air quality in cities taking into consideration the release of contaminants within the street network of a city. This will be achieved by providing urban planners, architects, and traffic planners with the basis for a new process for designing cities and new settlements with a healthy air quality. The research is carried out by a multidisciplinary group from ventilation, energy systems, architecture and geographic information systems. The research methods will be; wind tunnel studies, flow simulations, interviews and field measurement in an outdoor model city. This project will be in collaboration with our research partners at the Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou in China and Universita di Bascilicata in Italy. The PhD student will visit Sun Yat-Sen University in China to perform experiments at an outdoor model city, which consists of 3300 buildings. The effect of tree plantings is considered in cooperation with researchers from Italy. Departmental duties, usually teaching, will at most cover 20%. Local guidelines for salary apply.
Qualifications The candidate must hold an MSc degree in energy systems or other areas relevant to the PhD topic. The candidate should also have good collaborative skills as well as take initiative, be able to work both practical and theoretical and be independence in their work. Considering the content of the employment and tasks, it is important that the candidate are abel to speak and writes english fluency.
