RM’s Green Credentials Green RM: We have made a commitment to reducing our environmental impact, both through our company policies and our products. We are proud to have been selected as one of the Sunday Times’ Top 50 Greenest Businesses, and to have been named sustainable company of the year in the annual techMARK Awards. We have made a number of Green Commitments to our customers which are outlined below.
Our Green Commitments Lowest Power Hardware
Lower Power Solutions
We’re committed to low cost technology that is quiet and uses the lowest amounts of energy – helping you to reduce energy bills. We are pleased to have achieved an Energy Saving Recommended certification for our new RM One desktop PC.
It’s not just the IT hardware where we can make a difference. We can also offer you improved ways to monitor and manage power consumption.
Informed Choice Where possible, we provide information on the carbon emissions of our products, and use industry recognised standards for you to benchmark them.
Less Packaging
Greener Sourcing Where possible we are cutting shipments of our products by air from the Far East and the US. Further details and resources relating to RM’s green commitment may be found online at www.rm.com/green.
We are cutting back on the packaging that comes with our products and are constantly looking at the most effective way of packaging them. Where possible, we put supporting documentation online rather than in the box. We will also help to dispose of packaging sustainably.

RM’s Supplementary Services To make the most of your investment, RM offers a range of supplementary services that will help with the installation, ongoing running and protection of your machines. From software imaging services which will ensure that the new PC images are consistent with the existing image at your University to security features to protect machines, we can provide these services on both RM and HP hardware.
Insurance RM offers insurance for individual items purchased through RM, from as little as £18. The insurance is defined by the value of the equipment purchased. For more details please see RM Insurance.
Microsoft Campus installation We offer a Microsoft® Campus installation across the complete RM range. There is no additional charge for this service. Where users are purchasing from an institution that has a current campus agreement, they can request a campus installation. The PC would be shipped licensed with Microsoft Vista Home and pre-installed with Microsoft XP Professional. Please note it is the responsibility of the end-user to ensure their University is protected by a campus agreement and to specifically request this type of installation.
Image Pre-installation
• The customer accepts that the imaging process will lead to extended delivery times: typically an extra three working weeks (depending on the complexity of the image) from receipt of all the requested information and a copy of the image
For further details please contact your dedicated RM account manager.
• The customer provides information on all their software licensing agreements and confirms that the imaging process will not breach any of these agreements
RM equipment is supplied with a Windows operating system. However we do have a number of Linux drivers on our website. Any support provided is given on a reasonable endeavours basis.
Linux Support
• The customer accepts that some images may require significant development work, which it is not possible to ascertain until trialling a production build. Therefore if it is discovered part way through an imaging project that additional development is required, RM (in consultation with the customer) reserves the right either to charge for this work or to supply systems without the image • Images requiring development or maintenance may incur an additional fee • Imaging requirements below 25 units will be agreed dependent on the engineering resource availability at RM, and will be subject to an administration fee (based on complexity of image)
System Customisation RM is able to offer the following services for RM and HP equipment:
For requirements over 25 units, RM offers a free-of-charge disk imaging service. (Please note there is a small ghost licence charge that will be added, but RM is providing the service free of charge). To qualify for this service the following is required:
• Custom BIOS Settings
• The customer provides all the information requested by RM in good time
• Security etching
• Asset Tagging – Physical • Asset Tagging – Electronic • Third party component integration

RM’s Financing Solutions Operating Lease Capability
Rental Options
Our approach is based on the individual requirements of each educational establishment, to allow them access to the technology they want, whilst trying to avoid the constraints their budget dictates. All transactions are written on RM documentation, and we employ a panel of funders to ensure that rates are always under review and subject to competition. This in turn means that customers will benefit from the most competitive cost of funds.
RM can offer a residual value-based lease, which will be compliant with IAS17/SSAP21, through an investment in the lease with a future value of >10%. Alternatively the residual value in a lease can be recovered through a separate service contract, so that at the end of the lease the assets not being refreshed can continue in use without charge. This has the benefit of ensuring a known fixed cost for budgeting at the outset, whilst ensuring that the lease is still off balance sheet. It also has the added advantage of identifying the total cost of use of the assets at the outset of the contract.
We can create a rental plan structured around a changing budget. Additionally we have the ability to accommodate circumstances where there is surplus cash which you want to carry forward to cover future obligations.
Our Products and Services
Master Lease Agreement
RM Finance is a division of RM Education, tasked with providing a tailor-made financing solution to meet purely education market needs. Our annual turnover averages c. £20m of which up to 20% comes from the HE sector.
Rental Agreement The RM rental agreement offers a flexible approach towards paying for equipment and allows you to maximise the spending potential associated with your budget. The rental profile can be structured for monthly, quarterly, termly, half yearly or annual payments and can include all IT hardware, software and related services supplied not only by RM but also other suppliers. Other equipment requirements may also be included.
A Master Lease Agreement can be used when there is an intention to procure over an extended period of time. RM can manage a programme of investment by securing a credit line in advance of any lease agreement being signed. You would complete a single Master Lease Agreement, and then place all future orders using a Schedule against the credit line available. This means that all Agreements are written under the same terms and conditions, and it may be possible to base the pricing on the total anticipated order value, thus securing best value. This also has the inbuilt advantage of enabling identification of cost centre expenditure for potential cross-charging.
If you want to proceed with implementation plans, but don’t have the full budget available or are waiting for a budget allocation to be made, we can structure a deferred rental plan that allows immediate access to the technology, but with the first payment made on an agreed date after the agreement is activated.
End-of-lease Options RM is able to provide appropriate end-of-lease options, which can be driven by individual circumstances or financing guidelines. Additionally, RM Lease Agreements do not have early termination penalty clauses, should changing circumstances force you to decide to discontinue leasing.
Sale and Leaseback If there is an existing useful life to assets that, for example, are part of the transfer to a new managed service, then it would be appropriate to consider the sale and release of cash back to you for these assets.

Support and Maintenance If you require technical assistance for an RM or HP machine purchased from RM, you have a choice of three options.
1) T elephone: Hardware fault calls are usually reported by phoning the dedicated HE Support Team at RM’s Call Management Centre in Milton Park, Oxfordshire. RM operates a sophisticated call management system, based on a single corporate database. This system checks service access details and provides the complete range of call management facilities, including task management, escalation and engineer scheduling. The system tracks the call from inception to closure, ensuring that service levels are achieved. It also enables any member of a Support Team to view a customer’s fault report, without the need for the customer to repeat any details. The HE telephone lines are open from 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Thursday and 8.30am to 4.15pm Friday. Personnel educated to degree level, who also have Microsoft accreditation, will typically man this line. The number to call is 0800 019 7908
3) W ebsite: Faults can be logged 24 hours a day via RM Support Online at www.rm.com/support. Simply log on, select ‘I require assistance’, ‘Diagnostics’ and then the area that best matches your issue. Follow through the questionnaire and we will log your contact. We aim to respond within one working hour by adding to the call notes. You can also visit the RM.Com Support pages, which have been voted as one of the top 10 web support pages by The Association of Support Professionals. Please note that you will be required to register online to use RM Support Online.
Please note, once a call has been raised for a HP machine it will be assigned by RM to a HP engineer to complete the warranty fix.
For details on the diagnostic process please see Appendix.

Warranty and On-site Services RM offers a standard warranty on all products, with the length and type of warranty depending on the product. Further information on the warranties can be found below.
Dead on Arrival Equipment If a PC or Monitor incurs a hardware fault within the first 30 working days from shipment, the unit will be classed as ‘Dead on Arrival’. The customer must log a call using one of the methods outlined above and RM will endeavour to replace the PC within 5 working days. The failed unit will also be collected. On-site Warranty Included with all RM PC hardware is a 13 month on-site warranty (upgradeable to five years) and a three year swap-out warranty on all monitors. Once a fault has been diagnosed and reported, an engineer will be allocated to a call. The engineer will arrive the next working day for all hardware calls placed before 4pm. An address will be taken from the customer to ensure that the engineer is sent to the correct location. For monitor calls, the same hardware logging process is followed; RM then logs a call with the monitor maintainer who then arranges for a replacement unit to be sent.
Business Day on-site warranty (upgradeable to five years) and a three year swap-out warranty on all monitors. Once a fault has been diagnosed and reported, an engineer will be allocated to a call. The engineer will arrive the next working day for all hardware calls placed before 4pm. An address will be taken from the customer to ensure that the engineer is sent to the correct location. For monitor calls, the same hardware logging process is followed. Third Party Maintainers RM currently has a desktop maintenance relationship with a number of other maintenance providers at various institutions around the country. We are willing to work with any reputable service provider if it is in the best interest of the customer and providing service levels can be maintained. Please discuss the requirements with your account manager.
Support and onsite services RM is able to source fully trained engineers on request, to assist with University deployment and on-site support. There following options can be tailored to meet the individual needs of any University. • On-Site Engineer Provision RM currently has a number of sites where an on-site engineer forms an integral part of the institution’s service delivery mechanism. We would be happy to discuss this option with any NDNA member. • Managed Services RM can provide a host of wrap-around services for PC Desktops, to provide a fully managed service. This can involve leasing, deployment and on-site engineering services from RM. We would be happy to discuss this option with any NDNA member.
Included with all HP PCs and Notebooks is a three year Next
