REPAIRS

HEATING When the cold weather begins, turn on the heat, please notify the office if you have any problems with the radiator in your room. Remember to always close your windows during cold weather if you are leaving for an extended

period of time, otherwise your apartment could sustain water damage from a burst pipe. Any damages caused by leaving your windows open will result in extra fees. The thermostat should remain between 15-20 degrees if you are away during the holidays.

ROOM CONDITION REPORTS (RCR) You will be receiving a Room Inspection Report in your mailboxes this week. This form is to be completed and returned to Solin Hall Office no later than October 1st, 2017. The completion and accuracy of the document avoids any confusion next April, when another room inspection is conducted. It also allows us the opportunity to remedy any concern you may have. If urgent repairs are needed,

please notify the Solin Hall Office. ffFailure to complete the report

may result in damage charges being assessed at the end of the academic year regardless of your own responsibility.

ff Furthermore, the inspection

report notifies us of any repairs to be completed in your room. The repairs, once reported, are then directed to our carpenter, painter, and/or handy person.

desks of your Residence for a nominal fee. No other product is permitted. Also, please note that the cost of plastering and repainting a room can be upwards of $2500. Do not use thumbtacks, nails, screws or duct tape on any apartment walls. Adhesive hooks are not allowed, as they rip out sections of drywall. Students will be charged $50 for each adhesive hook found in an apartment.

COMMON AREAS The common areas are fully furnished for your use and comfort. Please respect your fellow students by leaving the common room furniture where it belongs. Fees will apply for any furniture that has been moved.

CORRIDORS AND STAIRWELLS The City of Montreal Fire prevention department requires that all corridors be free of clutter at all times for obvious safety reasons. Clutter includes garbage bags, shoes, boots, coats, boxes, luggage, recycling bins, and other personal items. The cleaning staff is responsible to remove and dispose of any found articles. In the winter time, kindly place all boots inside your room. Also, for your own safety, take care to keep the hallways

inside of your apartment clean and free of anything that may hinder you from evacuating the building safely. Any graffiti that is found on your apartment door is your responsibility. You will be notified by the building manager to clean your apartment door if graffiti is noticed. Failure to do so will result in a cleaning charge or a charge for a replacement door that will be charged to your student account.

MAIL

DECORATING This will be your room for the next eight months, so you should make it your own. Note, however, that you should not use duct tape or any other product that leaves a residue on the walls or that strips the paint. We are providing all students with 1 sheet of 16 adhesives that have been proven to protect walls from damage. These are provided free of charge and additional adhesives may be purchased at the guest service

packages sent via Canada Post and store them in the office for you to pickup; a sign will be posted on the bulletin board above the post boxes with the previous day’s shipment list. You are responsible for picking up your packages at the office; the staff will not notify you otherwise of the arrival. Packages that are not picked up within a considerable amount of time will be returned to the sender. If your packages are sent to you via courier service, pick-up depends on the company’s policy. If we cannot sign for it, the company will likely leave a note and it will be your responsibility to pursue the shipment thereafter.
