nyone who does full-cycle recruiting knows exactly how tough it can be to add a personal touch when building rapport with every single candidate. There is so much work to do, yet very little time for task management, let alone socializing with candidates. It’s important to keep in mind, that these people could be future leads to other candidates that may never be found online. With the extreme growth of social communities all over the web today, many potential candidates can be sourced online, however the ability to source candidate profiles offline has become a much greater commodity. Imagine having access to a top tier passive candidate that a competitor recruiter may never see. Sure, there is always a likelihood of a counteroffer, but there is a bigger reward in the fact that a candidate was found without their information publically available. Seeking referrals from candidates is never an easy task. Indeed, if they’ve had a pleasurable experience, why shouldn’t they refer anyone else? This is a skill that every recruiter should think about when communicating throughout the hiring process with each candidate. Building rapport and establishing a relationship with a candidate all comes down to time management. Making daily lists of to-do tasks is a great way to avoid forgetting things that need to be done. Whether it is a long to-do list electronically through Outlook, or a hand written list sitting next to the Try integrating a mobile app that computer, having a check off system is a great way to remember details. will work on both the computer If traveling often, try integrating desktop and a variety of mobile a mobile app that will work on platforms, such as Evernote® both the computer desktop and a variety of mobile platforms, such as Evernote®. Caring for Candidates continued The candidate will never feel like they’re in a black hole and will always feel valued when there is a consistent communication initiative. Candidates that aren’t constantly communicated with are never going to become a strong referral resource. Additionally, make sure to always follow-up with a candidate after they leave a voicemail or send an email. Being proactive with as many candidates as possible insures that candidates are cared for. Candidates are more likely to refer others to a recruiter that makes them feel valued. They will have a better sense of security and comfort in the way that recruiter will treat their friends, family and colleagues.

Google® Sets - Available Again!

O

n Sept. 5, 2011, Google shut down an AIRS favorite - Google® Sets. Originally launched in 2002, Google Sets was the longest running lab experiment, which never quite graduated, despite the brilliance of the product.

Where’s AIRS Training? Public Classes Baltimore 01/07/2013 - SearchLab 11.0 01/08/2013 - Certified Social Sourcing Recruiter 4.0 San Francisco 01/10/2013 - SearchLab 11.0 01/11/2013 - Certified Social Sourcing Recruiter 4.0

Sets did one thing amazingly well: generate a beautiful list of terms from a few examples. For instance, one could input Ford and Dodge into Sets and return a fantastic list of more competitors. For recruiters, Sets provided a valuable service for quick and accurate keyword generation. As of November 2012, Sets has returned in an unlikely location, as a Google Sheets feature within Google Drive.

To use it, open a new spreadsheet in Google Sheets. Then type at least two terms that are similar in A1 and A2. For example, you might type in software engineer in A1 and programmer in A2. Then, highlight both cells and, while pressing CTRL, click and drag the blue box down revealing other similar job titles like software developer. Be creative and think about all the quick keyword generation that can now be easily produced like competitors, job titles, colleges, slang, etc.

New Metasearch tool – Utop.it Metasearch engines are a great timesaver for any busy recruiter in need of sourcing their own passive candidates. Utop.it is no exception as it searches Google®, Bing® and YahooSM simultaneously and recognizes a great deal of the advanced Boolean that works directly at these large search engines. Additonally, Utop.it has a free Google Chrome™ Extension available in the Google Chrome Web Store. With Chrome browser installed, visit the Google Chrome Web Store at chrome.google.com/webstore and search for the “Ultimate Search Engine.” Once installed, this app will appear in a new tab within Chrome.
