kriSNa holds in His left hand pAnchajanya which is blown to enslave all He also plays on flute to pANDavAs who lost all the treasure in a crooked gambling- the pANDavAs who are very patient - kriSNa was a great helpmate (went to duryOdana as a messenger of pANDavAs ) but could not get from them even 10 cities kriSNa who fought the war, kriSNa who went as the messenger shows faces and does fearful gestures Oh! God!

appoochi kATTuhinrAn appochchi kATTudal means – small children will make variety of faces and do some fearful gestures to threaten the elders and others. There is a legend about this pASuram – uinda piLLai was making aBinaya (actions) for this song. He made faces and twisted the eye lids when he sang “appochchi” and showed kriSNa when he sang “attoodan”. Sree rAmAnuja was watching His aBinaya. At that time embAr indicated piLLai by showing his two hands holding the Sanka and chakra in them. Immediately piLLai did this aBinaya. Sree rAmAnuja was very pleased to see this and exclaimed “Is embAr here!”. kaNNan blows conch and plays flute; fought BArata yuddha for pANDavAs who lost everything in the game of dice when duryOdana refused their due share of kingdom.

There are four kinds of warriors – atiratas, mahAratas, samaratas, artaratas. Of them atirata is one who, standing in his chariot saves his four armies fighting single handed with enemies. mahArata is one similar to atirata but fights singly with eleven thousand enemies. samarata is one who fights with an enemy of his order. artaratas is one who fights single handed but loses the battle. Of them the mention here is about the mahAratA.

kriSNa was born in Mid night at madurai as dEvaki putra. Immediately He went to AyarpADi (colony of cow-shepherds). There He was among the avivEkis (not having jnAna but were always hanging on kriSNa for their support). They were proud and thought they had enough strength to kill kamsa who is kaNNan’s enemy, out of love for kaNNa.

vandu appoochi kATTuhinrAn ammanEappoochi kATTuhinrAn kamsa was always waiting with the sword for kaNNan’s birth. So when kaNNan was born in midnight, in the jail where vasudEva and dEvaki were imprisoned. He was immediately taken to nandagOpa without kamsa’s knowledge. There in AyarpADi there were many enemies in the guise of the grass, pootana, Sakata etc. So the gOpAs were very alert and though incapable of fighting the rAkShasAs, were bragging vainly they would kill them. kriSNa pacifies them by saying ‘don’t worry, I shall take care and deal with them myself ‘. This is the meaning of ‘maruTTai tavirpittu ’.
