THE POSITION The Street Maintenance Worker II will perform construc on and maintenance work on City streets, roads, sidewalks and storm drains, including the installa on, manufacture and maintenance of traffic signs, pavement markings and other non‐electrical traffic control devices. The incumbent may manage the work of a crew. EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBILITIES Manage the work at a work site. Ensure that assigned tasks are accomplished. Report and explain delays; record me and work performed and materials used. Perform inspec on for street re‐surfacing public works projects. Clear and clean roadsides, gu ers, culverts and other drainage facili es. Par cipate in the removal, repair and replacement of storm drainage pipe. Due to variety of outdoor se ngs, needs to be able to work in all weather and terrain condi ons. Due to 24‐hour maintenance needs, needs to be able to work at all mes of day and night. Operate light and heavy motorized construc on and maintenance equipment including graders,
rollers, loaders, street sweepers, backhoes, compressors and pneuma c tools. Drive equipment to and from job sites. Load and unload equipment; inspect equipment. Excavate backfill, grade and roll construc on and repair sites. Clean work sites and equipment.

Perform preventa ve maintenance, adjustments and minor repairs on equipment. Grease, lubricate and fuel vehicles. Change backhoe buckets and teeth. Tighten loose bolts and hydraulic couplings. Perform heavy physical labor including li ing and carrying heavy objects, shoveling, raking and pushing
asphalt. Determine and par cipate in the establishment of traffic safety zone equipment. QUALIFICATIONS The Street Maintenance Worker II must be knowledgeable of: working with asphalt and oils, methods and techniques of patching and sealing, work methods of heavy construc on equipment used in street maintenance and construc on, and safety procedures when using power tools and equipment. The incumbent will possess the skill to operate trucks and heavy equipment, including street sweepers, grader, backhoe, loader and asphalt spreader box. In addi on, the successful candidate will be able to manage the work of a site crew and train other City staff. Any combina on of educa on and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abili es necessary for sa sfactory job performance would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge, skills and abili es would be: gradua on from high school or equivalent, and three years street repair or construc on experience, one year of which involved opera on of heavy street repair equipment. Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License and a sa sfactory driving record at the me of appointment is required. Possession of a valid Class A California Driver’s License by comple on of proba on is required. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS The annual salary is $60,744 ‐ $73,825 depending on qualifica ons.
