We have done a great job in reducing the amount of energy we use in the school, and hopefully you at home can do the same too – just ask your children how we do it in school! Pictured above are Kate Leighton and Eva Patterson who represented the Green School Committee to collect the flag at a recent ceremony in the Silver Springs Hotel.

Big Sing!

Recently in the City Hall there was a Big Sing whereby hundreds of people joined in the Hallelujah Chorus. We held our own version of this on Thursday 22nd June to participate in Love Live Music Day, a nationwide celebration of the gift of music. Children in all classes had the opportunity to sing for about 10mins at midday and the sounds emanating from around the school were testament to the enjoyment of the event! Mile buíochas to all concerned and to the teachers for their cooperation.

Cork City Sports

Sports For All Day After numerous postponements due to our fablous Irish summer weather, we finally had our Sports For All day on Wednesday the 20th of June. We were very lucky the weather held up and helped to make it a most enjoyable day for everybody involved. The children had their sponsored walk up to the pitch and down to the playground. At both venues there were many activities and games set up for the children to take part in, from egg and spoon races and parachute games to relays, obstacle courses, football, rounders and Olympic events. The day up in Caherlag culminated with the annual teacher –v- 6th class soccer match. It was a very competitive game and everybody involved gave it 110%! Between tough (but fair!) tackles, superb (Flukey) goals and referee decisions the game ended in a 2 all draw!

BOY’S TEAM

GIRL’S TEAM

A big thank you to everybody involved in making the day an enjoyable and memorable one! Ms. Fitzgerald’s first class on Sport’s Day.

Medal Presentation It was with grear honour that we welcomed Mr. Jimmy Barry Murphy (current Cork hurling manager) to the school for a presentation of medals. Our boys team did fantastically well to win all seven hurling matches and qualify for the final in Páirc uí Caoimh, losing narrowly to Kilcredan on the day. And our girls mini sevens football team made history in winning the county final for the first time in the school’s history. Jimmy Barry Murphy, a former Cork star in both hurling and football, spoke highly on the benefits of sport and the lifelong friends that are made. The children were very impressed with his friendly and unassuming manner and our teams proudly received their medals and were thilled to get the chance to shake this Cork legend’s hand! Congratulations to Eoin Monahan, who recently played on the Cork Primary Team, at half time in the Cork v Kerry match. Playing in front of thousands, Eoin even managed to score 1-1 in the space of the ten minutes it was on! Also best wishes to Becky Opperman who will play at half time in the All Ireland football final in Croke Park this year. Playing in front of over 80,000 people will be an experience Becky will never forget and we wish her well on the day.

Congratulations to both our boy’s and girl’s teams, who recently participated and did incredibly well. The boys against very stiff competition, managed to win a number of medals and the girls were lucky enough to win the overall trophy for their division. A special congratulations must go to Favour Orimolusi, who qualified for the County Final and was only narrowly beaten to come second overall in the county. What a fantastic achievement and watch out for Favour in time to come!

School Tour fun!
