Fishing Rodeo at Ed DeSimon Recreation Area Saturday, June 2 | 9 a.m. to noon Join us for our first Fishing Rodeo at Ed DeSimon Park! This is a great way for children ages 3 to 15 to learn basic fishing skills in a fun and safe environment. Staff will be on hand to teach the basics and answer any questions. Children will also be able to learn about their local ecosystem and what they can do to keep that ecosystem healthy.

After the parade, enjoy a fun-filled celebration at the Apple Ridge Recreation Area. Highlights include an inflatable Fire Engine Obstacle course, a rock wall, Supersonic and Sandstorm rides and more. Food for sale will include ice cream, hot dogs, sandwiches and cold drinks. Take a chance on Bingo, play carnival games and listen to celebratory music provided by the Montgomery Village Community Band.

Enter the parade! It’s free, fun and a great way to show your creativity and community spirit. Parade entries that best reflect the “Superheroes” theme or have a patriotic focus will be judged in the following categories: Bicycles 4 to 8-yearolds; Bicycles 9 and older; Big Wheel, Tricycle or Motorized Toy Vehicle; Best Costume 6 and younger; Best Costume 7 and older; Community Banner or Sign; Hand Pulled Float; Motorized Float; Marching Group; and Performing Marching Group. A flexible alternative to camp! Led by enthusiastic director Eddie Lathan, North Creek Summer Club provides a variety of activities including art projects, ping pong, air hockey, playground play and group games both indoors and outdoors. In addition to special activities like pizza parties, designated group swim days and a big end-of-year extravaganza, the program will also host a guest performer and enjoy a mid-summer field trip. About Lake Marion Camp Ages 6 to 12

Get ready for another fun-filled summer at Lake Marion Summer Camp. Campers will enjoy swimming, sports, “stem-ulating” activities, arts and crafts, special visitors, field trips and play various indoor and outdoor games. Campers should bring a non-perishable lunch each day and dress for active play (including closed toe shoes). Campers will be put in to appropriate age groups on the first day of each week. Each camper will receive one t-shirt that must be worn on field trip days. All fees for field trips are included with registration. Field trip destinations are subject to change. Paperwork must be completed prior to the first day of camp. Optional Swim Lessons at 4:10 p.m. (four 40-minute lessons per week) for campers enrolling in afternoon extended day, see below.

Montgomery Village has partnered with Metropolitan Tennis Education Group (MTEG) and their coaching staff is dedicated to bringing the best tennis game out of each individual. MTEG makes learning the sport a positive, productive and fun experience for all participants. North Creek Tennis Courts.

Village youth ages 6 to 17 can spend afternoons all week long enjoying tennis skills, games and instruction in a fun environment. Students will learn the correct fundamentals and techniques of tennis. All strokes will be taught on age appropriate equipment and will move students through a progression of development. Students will also enhance their game in an environment that cultivates and encourages competitive tennis play. Our coaching staff is dedicated to bringing the best tennis game out of your child.

For students ages 6 and older who have completed the Little Dragons class or have no martial arts experience. Students will learn rules and etiquette first, followed by basic martial arts skills (both modern and traditional). Classes will vary as they focus on forms, kicking, agility and sparring skills.

For students who have a solid foundation in the basics and have tested out of the beginner class. Students will be introduced to more complex movements and combinations and will practice Olympic-style Taekwondo sparring. Students will learn leadership skills and be required to help teach and inspire beginners.

Swim Lessons MVF offers swim instruction for all ages at various sites in the Village. Swim lessons are open to Village residents and pool members, as well as non-pool members at an additional fee.

and Shallow Water Lifeguarding Course (Certification is good only for the pools up to 5 feet deep) Space is very limited. Students must be 15 years old by the last day of the course (proof of age required) and pass a pre-screen test. Class sessions will be held at Lake Marion Community Center, 8821 East Village Avenue. A detailed course schedule/syllabus will be provided on the first day of class. Students must attend all class sessions as scheduled. All classes are subject to change. Participation in the class does not guarantee certification. Parent & Me Water Exploration For ages 6 months to 3 years old or less than 36 inches tall. Parents and children explore the water together using activities that help little ones learn to enjoy water safely. Children not toilet trained must wear rubber pants over a swim diaper to be allowed in the pool. Regular disposable diapers are not permitted.

Multi-Level Swim Lessons For children 5 and older. Participants will be tested the first day of class and placed in one of the following skill levels that best suits their ability.

Tadpoles (Level 1) Students will learn the fundamentals of moving in the water and safety around bodies of water.

Guppies (Level 2) Students, comfortable in the water, but not yet swimmers will learn the fundamentals of water safety.

Minnows (Level 3) Students who can voluntarily assume a swimming position, will learn the fundamentals of swimming and advanced safety skills.

Join us for our first Fishing Rodeo at Ed DeSimon Park! This is a great way for children ages 3 to 15 to learn basic fishing skills in a fun and safe environment. Staff will be on hand to teach the basics and answer any questions. Children will also be able to learn about their local ecosystem and what they can do to keep that ecosystem healthy. No registration is needed—it is free to fish and participate in the activity. Enjoy Lake Whetstone by renting boats at the dock, 18701 Montgomery Village Avenue, from Saturday, May 5 through Sunday, Sept. 30. MVF’s South Dock Boathouse will be open for boat rentals from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends, Memorial Day and Labor Day. Boat rentals begin at 11 a.m., with last rentals launched between 5:45 and 6:15 p.m.

A valid Driver’s License, MVF Activity Card, or other ID required for rental. Children must be 16 or older to rent a boat, unless accompanied by an adult. Please note all sales at the Lake Whetstone Boathouse are cash only. The dock will close during periods of inclement weather. During normal operating hours the Lake Whetstone staff can be reached at 301-740-9456. Enjoy fishing, boating, jogging and picnicking (no grilling or alcoholic beverages permitted) at Lake Whestone from 7 a.m. until the area closes one-half hour after sunset. Maryland State Fishing Regulations are in effect for all MVF lakes and ponds. Applications for a fishing license are available at http://dnr.maryland.gov/Pages/licensing.aspx. Children 16 years old and younger are not required to obtain a license to fish.

Boat racks located at Lake Whetstone are rented to Village residents for storing their boats. They are rented on a first-come, first-served basis. Rental period is from April 1, 2018 until March 31, 2019. All boats stored on the rack must also purchase a Lake Whestone 2018 ID sticker. You may register to rent boat racks at the MVF Office, 10120 Apple Ridge Road. Privately owned boats meeting MVF guidelines can be used on Lake Whetstone with the purchase of a 2018 MVF Identification Sticker. Stickers are available for purchase during normal business hours at the MVF Office or the Lake Whetstone Dock. MVF FACILITY RENTALS Do you have a special anniversary, baby shower, birthday or retirement to celebrate? Need a place for your sports team to practice? North Creek and Lake Marion community centers are now available to most Montgomery Village residents. Residents are able to rent these centers for non-alcoholic private functions between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m., 7 days a week, depending on center availability. Rental rates begin at $50/hour (DU Residents) and $75/hour (NDU Residents*) and require a $250 security deposit. Rental requests must be submitted to the MVF Office at least three weeks in advance to determine facility availability. Potential renters can obtain a copy of the “Procedures on the Private Use of Facilities,” which includes the “Private Rental Request Form,” at the MVF Office, 10120 Apple Ridge Road, by calling 301-948-0110, or online at www.montgomeryvillage.com. Camp Refund Policy

Registration for Montgomery Village Foundation (MVF) spring classes begins Friday, March 9 and continues until the programs are filled. A program will be cancelled if there is not sufficient registration two days prior to the start of the program.

Except in the case of sudden illness, cancellations/ requests for refund must be received in writing and prior to the first day of the camp session or class in question, in order to be considered. Refunds will be made only under the following circumstances:

Program registration is complete once staff has verified an opening in the session and when a receipt has been issued to the registrant.



Full payment is due at the time of registration. However, for those who register for all sessions of any MVF camp at the same time, a deposit equal to the cost of half of those sessions will hold a space(s) at camp. All camp fees must be paid in full by Monday, June 12. If final payment is not received by the due date, your camper’s place may be offered to someone on the waiting list.

1. Cancellation of a program by the Montgomery Village Foundation. 2. Extended illness (doctor’s certificate required). 3. Permanent relocation of participant out of Montgomery Village. 4. Failure to meet camp/class prerequisites. 5. MVF changes made to the meeting time/location, which prohibit participant’s attendance. Refund requests which are based on personal reasons, including vacationing, will only be granted if MVF is able to fill the requestor’s spot in his or her camp or class with another paying participant. Absolutely no refunds will be granted once half of the program session has been concluded—no exceptions. Except in the case that MVF cancels or changes the time/location of a program, a $25 non-refundable deposit included in the registration fee will be held by MVF in the event that a refund is granted.

All camper-related forms are due Monday, June 12. State code requires MVF to maintain these forms on location whenever camp is in session. Accordingly, children will not be admitted to any MVF camp until those documents are received and reviewed by MVF staff.



MVF camps are offered in pre-determined one-week (Racing Wind and Soaring Stars) or two-week (Tiny Feet) sessions. Special registration requests will be considered (but not guaranteed) based on program requirements, including enrollment, special activities and trips.
