Course Syllabus - Intensive The same topics as outlined above will be covered, however, it will be condensed into 4 days of face-to-face workshops. The program of topics will be provided on the first day of workshops.

Learning Outcomes On successful completion of this unit you will be able to: • interview a client and prepare individual income tax returns involving a range of compliance taxation issues • advise individual income tax clients on a limited range of issues • maintain client administration records and liaise with the ATO in respect of lodgment lists for individual income tax returns

Learning Activities – Online Learning There will be a weekly webinar covering the course syllabus. Prior to the webinar, you will be sent an email containing the details of the topics materials to be covered in the upcoming webinar, including the materials for pre-reading, activities and other relevant learning guides. The purpose of the webinars is to describe some of the key tax principles and the application of those principles. This is a self-paced study program and a webinar does not cover all there is to learn about the area. You will need to read and study further those areas covered in the webinar. You will be guided on your learning activities and goals by the Course Convener through: gototraining.com.au. Similarly, it is not possible to cover in the seminar all the course material contained in the lecture notes. All material in the lecture notes, whether covered in the webinar or not, is examinable in the final examination. Live webinars will be recorded and accessible via gototraining.com.au

Learning Activities – Intensive 4 Day Workshops The course syllabus (as described above) will be covered in the 4-day intensive workshop. A detailed program of workshops and case study sessions will provided on the day. The workshops are conducted face to face and provide for an open learning forum through active participation and case study practice. All learning material will be provided on the day.

To pass this unit you must: 1. Achieve a result of at least 70% for each quiz; AND 2. Achieve a result of at least 70% for the exam.

Online quizzes The online quizzes are compulsory assessments. They revise the knowledge and information contained in each topic and are an excellent diagnostic tool to increase your proficiency and revision for the end-of-course examination. There are 6 online Checkpoint questions scheduled for each fortnight and which must be completed prior to sitting the final exam. All instructions and deadlines in relation to the online quizzes will be provided on the home page: gototraining.com.au. It is imperative that you login regularly to receive these updates.

Final (take home) Examination The exam will be a take home open book examination containing 4 case study-based questions. The exam will be available on gototraining.com.au. The exam will have a maximum of 4,000 words (excluding footnotes and bibliography). Presentation of Exam Take home exams should follow the following guidelines of presentation: • • •

Final (take home) Examination The final examination is two hours with 15 minutes reading time. The exam is open book where candidates are permitted to take their study materials into the examination room. It will be set for the final day (day 4) of the workshops. Candidates must achieve a mark of 70 percent or higher to pass the examination.

ENROLMENT & PAYMENT The Tax School Tax Excellence Course is designed to equip students with a practical understanding of Australian tax law. It provides a supportive learning environment by using flexible learning options to deliver technical content. The course provides hands-on training and is ideal for both new entrants to the tax profession as well as established tax professionals looking to broaden and refresh their tax skill set.

Course delivery Students can attend online webinars from anywhere in the world or classroom workshops in Sydney and Perth.

The Online webinar program: Weekly online sessions held for 12 weeks date commencing TBA.

The Intensive classroom program: 4 days of face to face classroom workshops to be held in Perth and Sydney.

Awarding authority: Certificate will be provided on successful completion of the program.

Course Fees A registration fee of $250 is payable with enrolment with a balance of $595 payable prior to the first session.

What’s covered by course fees? All learning and study materials including PowerPoint slides, lecture materials and study notes, activities, case studies and solutions. Peer learning is achieved via online discussion boards, monitored and reviewed by the course convener. It also covers quizzes, exams and certification.

Tax School does not employ tax preparers, but we have associations with national tax agent companies who seek qualified tax preparers yearly. These companies may reimburse some or all of the fees of the Excellence in Tax Course under their own terms.
