TECHNOLOGY UNITES US December 16, 2013
Technology Unites Us Yangon - Local technology and free speech advocacy organization, Myanmar ICT for Development Organization (MIDO), is working with the U.S. Embassy to organize a TechCamp January 13-14 in Yangon. “TechCamps” are a U.S. Government initiative convening technology experts and civil society organizations (CSOs) to brainstorm on how technology can be used to address real world challenges. The goal is to increase the digital literacy of CSOs and connect CSOs to local, regional and international technology communities. The TechCamp, whose theme is “Technology Unites Us,” will bring 100-150 representatives from these communities together with tech and financial management experts to learn about technology resources available in country, to explore the challenges facing CSOs, and to develop solutions to these challenges. TechCamp will be held in English and Burmese with simultaneous interpretation. The organizers welcome applications of interest from organizations and persons around the country who are working in any sector to improve their communities and are eager to learn new problem-solving techniques. Participants will be selected to prioritize diversity based on responses to the below questionnaire. In order to help insure the greatest diversity of participants, we will accept up to two (2) participants representing any one CSO. In recognition of the theme “Technology Unites Us”, we seek to include participants who represent the geographic and demographic diversity of the country. Travel and accommodation costs will be covered for participants from outside of Yangon. Participants
may be asked to share a hotel room with another participant in order to house all participants close to the conference venue. If you know of organizations or individuals that you believe would benefit from this experience, particularly those outside Yangon, please forward this message to them.
