TechSmith Facebook Landing Page Proposal Ali White
Purpose The primary reason TechSmith should create landing pages for each Facebook page in order to give new Facebook users that come across each page a reason to “like” it. The secondary reasons are to notify Facebook users of other places that they can interact with each product on the web, where to get technical support, and link to other TechSmith product pages. This document will outline what information we need to gather in order to create the most effective landing page, an list and analysis of effective landing pages already in existence on Facebook, what information should be contained on the pages, and possible wireframe layouts of the landing page design.
What do we need to know? ●
Who are the users that will be liking this page? ○ Age Group & Gender
○
■ Mostly male, ages 13-44 Geographic Location
■
○
Mostly English speaking people in the US. However, other markets should not be ignored. Do they already use the product? ■ We assume yes, because these a product specific pages and not task specific (aka screen capturing).
●
●
●
What do they want? ○ Tips ○ Email information ○ Giveaways What sort of content do we want to provide for them? ○ Videos/Text/Images ○ Links to Newsletter ■ Is that too much to ask when we want a “Like”? ○ Link back to the Product Page (After the web freeze?) What should the design look like? ○ Possibly re-purpose existing designs ○ Example Pages ■ Fox News (best landing page, with an image breakdown)
■ ■ ■ ■ ■
Kaplan (company values & indicates why to “like”) BMW (links “liking” to their brand identity) Coca-Cola (highlights fans & Coca-Cola environmentalism) Red Bull (initial image promoting a “like” leads to content) Pizza Hut (campaign specific promotion)
■ ■ ■
Monopoly (design based around the product) Dell (use of a comment box on the landing page) For more: http://www.inspiredm.com/tmp-facebook-showcase/
Landing Page Necessities ● ● ●
●
Indicate & encourage user to “like” the page Video that elaborates on why you’d like it: benefits OR placeholder image Ways to connect with us outside of Facebook ○ Twitter ○ YouTube ○ RSS (Camtasia & Snagit- Visual Lounge; Jing- Jing Blog) ○ Tumblr Blog (if we get approval and launch in time) Links to other product fan pages NOTE: These pieces are in order of their priority and should be displayed as such.
Design Considerations Overall Design The design should be compliant with TechSmith brand standards. Each page should follow their respective color scheme. Furthermore, the design should match the photo chosen as the profile photo for each product page.
Image Hosting Things to consider: ● All images/video must be hosted somewhere outside of Facebook, such as Screencast.com ● Due to the way the internet processes that information, it will mean a slower upload and time before international viewers see that content
Dimensions ● ●
Maximum Page Width: 520px Maximum Height: There are no constrictions by Facebook. However, be considerate of the scroll bar. The most essential information should be viewable before the user has to scroll up or down.
Example Camtasia Page Wireframe
NOTE: Each web page under “Camtasia on the Web” is a link, with descriptions to give the user a reason to select it. The download directive is not a link; however, the “PC” and “Mac” keywords are links to the respective pages. The “like” button inside of the page is a hotspot.
