This is one of the most difficult stroke shots so I seldom shoot it during the regular part of an exhibition. However, sometimes after a show some of the better players will ask me to shoot some shots that require a particularly good stroke, and I’ll usually play this one. The Big Circle Draw Shot is similar to the Jimmy Moore Circular Draw Shot on page 144. However, on this shot you must use a very hard stroke. Use low left english. The cue ball normally will follow Path X. But when the cloth is new, it will likely travel down Path Y. For this shot to work, the conditions have to be right. The table must have very good if not brand new cloth. A common problem is the cue ball jumping over the cushion. This is due to the hard stroke and the downward hit on the cue ball caused by the rail, which is so close to your bridge. You can avoid this disaster by using a rail bridge. Let your cue rest on the rail and slide between your index and middle fingers. And be sure to hold your cue as level as possible factoring in that you’re playing a draw shot.
