The Power of Prayer (Part 5)

Praying in the Power of “The Name” John 14:13-14

Introduction: “I know God answers prayers, I just don’t believe He would answer mine.”

12

I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13

And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. 14

You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

15

"If you love me, you will obey what I command. John 14:12-15 (NIV)

23

In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. 24

Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. John 16:23-24 (NIV)

The Power of Prayer (Part 5)

Praying in the Power of “The Name” John 14:13-14

What Does it Mean to Pray in Jesus’ Name? • The meaning of “The Name” in scripture

• The “givens” or assumptions when we come in Jesus’ Name:  It’s for God’s glory  It’s according to His will

 The request flows out of one’s abiding fellowship with Christ

To pray “in Jesus’ name” is to recognize that we have no “claim” or merit before God in and of ourselves, but that Jesus has immeasurable merit, power, and “claim” on God and that our “claim” on God is a result of our relationship with Jesus.

2. What impact does this have on our confidence before God in prayer? How does this strengthen your faith?

3. Who qualifies to ask for things in Jesus’ Name?

4. What one thing do you believe God wants to do “in” or through your life that is His will and for His glory? Have you ever asked God to do it based on your claim to Him through Christ?
