NOTES
Traditional Worship How significant is worship when it comes to childhood? How much do children remember? How formative is it in their later life? How important is it for them to watch their parents worship? How much can they actually comprehend? Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way they should go and when they are old, they will not turn from it.” Accordingly from God’s perspective, it is MOST significant. The Rejoice! Children’s Choir is helping to lead in worship this morning. Those words “lead in worship” are not idly chosen. While sometimes referred to as the church of the future, they are also a part of the church of the now. Jesus gave very much attention to children and their significance and modeling of what it means to trust and to humble oneself. Much of what I learned about worship came from sitting between my mom and dad and hearing them sing, pray, and open the Scriptures. As a child, little did I know how much I was being shaped by worshiping with them. Welcome and affirm the children for their leadership and presence in worship (affirm their parents too!). They are not a sweet novelty in worship, children are a model of the Kingdom of God in worship. “Unless you become like a child, you will never enter the Kingdom of God.” -Dr. Dan Sharp

YEAR OF THE BOOK! THIS WEEK'S DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1.
Have you ever volunteered for something, even though you didn’t feel qualified or prepared? Please describe that experience.
2. God asks the questions, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” in verse 8. For what purpose does God want to send someone? 3. God is seated on the throne in this vision. It is similar to John’s vision of Revelation 4:2 (please read Revelation 4:1-11). What is the significance of God sitting on a throne prior to the messianic prophecy and also after the fulfillment of the prophecy? 4. The seraphs gathered around the throne all sang and shouted “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory” (6:3). This worship is very similar to the vision on Revelation 4:8 (please read). Why is worship central to these passages? How can it inform us? 5. Isaiah’s response (Woe is me!) in verse 5 upon seeing the King, Lord of hosts prompts a response from one of the seraphs. What does the seraph do and why? Why is this important? 6. Please read these three passages: John 20:21, Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 1:8. The notion of “being sent” is certainly not specific to Isaiah. One of the foundational missional texts is John 20:21 in which Jesus appears to his disciples after Easter and says to them, “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” Thus, God sends his disciples (and us) out into the world for his purposes. For what purpose does Jesus send his disciples? 7. As you think about the places you will go this week (where you will work, study, socialize, play, etc…), how can the notion that God is “sending” you impact the interactions you might have? As you think about the week ahead, who is one person God might be sending you to this week? *This week's Year of the Book reading: 2 Kings 18-Isaiah 17
