Winnie Foster, a teenage girl on the cusp of maturity, longs for a life outside the control of her domineering mother. When lost in the woods near her home she happens upon Jesse Tuck, a boy unlike any she’s ever met before. He and his family are kind and generous, and they immediately take her in as one of their own. However, the Tucks hold a powerful secret, and with the mysterious Man in the Yellow Suit tracking them down they fear that the world as they know it could end.

Discussion Questions
•W innie lived a life of privilege, but felt very stifled by it. Are there any similarities between her life at home and your own? What are the differences? How did things change for Winnie when she was living with the Tucks? •M ae had a music box that she used to play to bring calm to a situation. She would use it to calm herself and also her sons when they were young. Are there any songs that you can listen to that make you feel more at ease? What is it about these song that calm you? •T he Tucks will live forever. Would you want to live forever? What are the positives and negatives? Do you think the Tucks were cursed? Why do you think Winnie decided not to drink from the stream? •W innie talks about the summer and how time often feels like it slows down. As you have gotten older do you feel like time goes faster or slower? How can you explain this?

Get Involved • One of the biggest concerns of the Tuck family was the destruction of the forest because it was their home. Huge amounts of trees that stood in this country no longer do. Plant a tree in your own backyard. Make sure to research what trees work best in your climate and area. • Support a conservation group either nationally or locally. These groups work to conserve many different ecological regions including wetlands, forests, and other environmentally sensitive areas.
