NEEDS ANALYSIS:
Food Card Programme.
Provision of food assistance in camps (and if requested by the Government to vulnerable Syrians outside of camps) is considered to be a key priority of the response, as it is life-saving and prevents immediate risk of harm to health.
MAY HIGHLIGHTS:
The entire population living in camps is expected to be vulnerable and will be assisted with a monthly ration of 80 Turkish Liras per person from WFP and GoT. In addition, assistance will be extended to some of the most vulnerable Syrians, living outside of camps in Turkey, with a pilot programme, if requested by Government. This population will be selected based on need and only households that are highly vulnerable to food insecurity will be targeted.
WFP/TRC officially expanded the e-Food Card Programme to three more camps: Beydagi camp in Malatya, Elbeyli camp in Kilis and Akcakale camp in Sanliurfa, bringing the total number of camps implementing the joint programme to 19, with a total beneficiary caseload receiving food assistance in camps over 195,000 Syrians. With the newly expanded programme, WFP contributes 60 Turkish liras per person per month on the WFP/TRC e-food card and AFAD contributes 20 Turkish liras for food allowance on their e-Card which brings the total amount provided to each refugee per month to 80 Turkish liras. Until now in these camps, AFAD had fully funded the food security programme. Further expansion of the cost-sharing modality of the e-Food Card Programme is planned to include Nusaybin and Viransehir camps in June. In May, direct transfers to beneficiaries' e-Food cards in refugee camps amounted to about US$ 6.7 million. * T* There are approximately 217,000 Syrians living in 22 camps across Turkey.
