February 2013 True Story

ReintegraDon  is  a  huge  part  of  what  Umbrella  does  –  but  what  is  it  all   about?  Umbrella  is  commi1ed  to  ensuring  the  safety,  health  and   happiness  of  the  children  in  it’s  care.  However,  as  indicated  by  child   studies  and  UN  convenDon  on  rights  of  a  child,  the  best  place  for  a  child  is   with  it’s  family.  So  we  strive  to  provide  support  to  the  children  in  their   family  homes  where  possible.  How  do  we  do  it?  It’s  a  long  process  where   our  field  officers  gather  informaDon  about  the  child,  their  village  and   family.  They  are  contacted  and  reconnected  with  their  child  and  invited  to   spend  Dme  together.  Gradually,  the  family  bonds  are  Ded  and  aSer   monitoring  if  the  family  situa=on  is  stable  and  safe,  the  child  is  brought   back  to  their  village  home.  Umbrella  con=nues  to  provide  them  support   and  monitors  them  on  a  regular  basis  to  ensure  they  are  happy,  healthy   and  safe.  Read  more:  www.umbrellanepal.org/Reintegra=on

Here  is  Ram  Kumar   when  Umbrella  rescued   him.

My  Village  is  Gatlang

Meet  Ram  Kumar,  the  eldest  of  3  brothers   who  were  trafficked  to  an  orphanage  in   Kathmandu  during  the  Dme  of  the  Civil  War  in   Nepal.  They  were  presented  as  orphans,  even   though  their  family  was  alive  and  well  in   Gatlang.  The  manager  of  this  corrupt  home   exploited  both  these  children  and  the   goodwill  of  tourists.  By  presenDng  the   children  as  orphans  and  keeping  them  in   dreadful  condiDons,  he  could  secure   donaDons  from  unsuspecDng  tourists  thinking   they  were  doing  a  good  deed….Read  more   here:  www.umbrellanepal.org/ My_Village_Is_Gatlang
