JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW: EMERGENCY MEDICINE (T2 – 3 Year Contract)

The Division of Emergency Medicine seeks to appoint a Junior Research Fellow to assist with the co-ordination of research in the division, specifically for the PhD Emergency Medicine Programme. This is a full-time, three year contract position, with the possibility of becoming a permanent position if demonstrable positive impact and outputs. Responsibilities include assisting with the administration of the PhD programme, mentoring of postgraduate students in the division, and assisting the Division to improve research outputs. Requirements include:
Master’s degree in a health science field; Demonstrable research experience, including minimum 3 years in the healthcare sector; Proven experience in carrying out core research tasks (such as literature reviews, scoping of funding opportunities, writing and revising research protocols, writing interview guides and reports, and coordinating research review by ethics committees); Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, e-mail and calendar programs, PowerPoint, etc.); Excellent interpersonal abilities; Excellent written and verbal communication.
Advantageous:
Demonstrable history of scientific publications; Demonstrable experience in post-graduate supervision; Demonstrable experience in emergency care.
Responsibilities include:
Liaison with faculty to ensure smooth administration of the PhD programme and appropriate progression of students; Mentoring (including research supervision and co-supervision) of post-graduate students in the Division of Emergency Medicine; Assist with grant funding applications; Assisting the Division to improve Research outputs including conducting own research.
The 2018 annual remuneration package, at the level of Junior Research Fellow, is between R415 578 and R575 865. To apply, please e-mail
