FAMILIES AT FIRST PRES First Pres has three rooms to help young families on Sunday mornings: one nursing room for mothers & infants, next to the Prayer Room, between the Sanctuary and Lee Fellowship Hall, and a second nursing room for mothers & infants, on the 1st floor of Clayton Life Center next to the elevators. In addition, we have a Family Room for infants, children and dads :-) , also on the first floor of Clayton Life Center. All three rooms have a live television feed from the worship services.

Thank you for coming to First Presbyterian Church of Orlando this morning! So glad you’re here. We worship together as a church family in four services on Sundays: Traditional worship in the Sanctuary at 8:30 and 11am, and Genesis worship in Lee Fellowship Hall at 9:45am and 11am. If you’d like to connect and learn more about this church family, someone will be available at the front of the room after worship, or you can visit fpco.org/guest.

NEXT STEP Tickets are on sale this morning for our original Christmas production, God in Time, presented by First Presbyterian Church of Orlando Chancel Choir and orchestra on December 13 at 4pm in our Sanctuary. This journey from before the existence of time and creation will place the birth of a baby boy in a stable in Bethlehem in the larger story. This concert is evangelical in nature, so bring your friends. Buy your tickets and choose your seats in the lobby of the Edington Ministry Center this morning, or online during the week at fpco.org/concert.

THIS WEEK More than just life and job skills training, Jobs Partnership provides career onramps for the unemployed and underemployed in our community. In January, First Pres will support the next semester of Jobs Partnership students. Volunteer roles are streamlined to give you a way to serve one night a week and see the impact of faith and work, working together. Learn more at fpco.org/jp. Be part of a First Pres holiday tradition by blessing others during this season of sharing. Ornaments on our Giving Tree meet specific needs for our mission partners and families in our own communities. Stop by the Edington Ministry Center Lobby or entrance to Lee Fellowship Hall to pick up an ornament. Return gifts and ornament tags by December 13. fpco.org/givingtree.

NEXT WEEK Our next Young At Heart is Friday, December 4. Fellowship begins at 10:30am, and lunch is served at noon. Lunch is $8 (reservation is required). Call Maddy Vilar at 407.423.3441 x1159. Bus transportation is provided to Westminster Towers’ residents with pick up time at 10:15am.

Traditional

W O R S H I P

Today marks the beginning of the season of Advent, a period of time which includes the four Sundays prior to Christmas Day. Today is also the first day of this year’s Advent readings which are available online at fpco.org/advent. The paraments change to the color of purple, reminding us of the royalty and arrival, of the King of kings. In the service today our attention focuses on the Prince of Peace. We conclude worship with a traditional, yet unique Christmas carol. Notice in the text there is no mention of Christ, of the birth, nor of the mission of Jesus. It references an ultimate peace on earth and goodwill to men, (a peace which only Christ can bring though the song doesn’t make reference to Jesus.) The carol was written in a stressful time of our nation’s history, 1849, during the stormy buildup leading to the Civil War. A verse that is omitted implores men to avoid war which drowns out the “angels’ song of peace.” The author, Edmund Sears, was a Unitarian pastor in New England, which may serve to explain the absence of any direct reference to the Nativity. While the author’s understanding of his text was different than ours, the carol has simply been interpreted generally as the joy of the angels announcing the arrival of the Savior of the world, the - Dr. Dan Sharp one who brings ultimate peace.
