USING MY LAPTOP COMPUTER AT THE CPA, CGA EXAM

Dear candidate,

Since the June 2013 exam session, the CPA Order offers you the possibility of using your laptop computer to input your responses for the PA1, PA2 and AU2 exams. This option is not mandatory. However, if you wish to take advantage of this option, you must advise the Order no later than September 23, 2013.

If you make the choice of using your laptop computer at the exam, you need to purchase the security software Securexam, install it on your computer, test it with the Qualification Exam and, of course, practice before the exam. Securexam is a “lockdown” software program that limits the access to two applications contained in the software, i.e. an Answer tab and a Spreadsheet tab.

Before purchasing the software, read carefully Section 1 of the Securexam Student User Guide to make sure your computer complies with the minimum hardware and software requirements.

How to get the Securexam software A) Purchase of the sotware The first step is to purchase the software. You may do it on line through the following web site: http://www.cgaquebec.org/pls/htmldb/f?p=9105:101:618982960290487::NO Fees are $85 plus taxes ($97,73, taxes included). Only online payments are authorized. The licence is valid until June 2015, no matter the number of exams you will write. Use your CPA, CGA ID.

B) Registration with the Software provider You must register with Software Securexam, Inc. at the following address: http://cpaquebec.softwaresecure.com/.

Complete the registration form. For the Student Number, put your candidate CPA, CGA identification with 7 digits (compulsory, otherwise you will not be able to register).

Enter the requested information about your employer, or skip to continue if you have no employer.

C) Download the software Once you are registered, click on “Next” to download the software.

Choose your language preference and click on "Execute" or "Open" according to the window that opens on your screen. (see the two images below)

Click on “Open” to download the application. This operation will take several minutes. Thereafter, continue with the instructions in the following illustration.

Please double-click on the file as shown below.

You must print the instructions. Afterwards, please double-click on the file with the extension .exe.

When the window below will appear, you can now click on “Execute”.

Follow the instructions, which will appear on your screen, to install the software for Securexam. Your computer will have to be rebooted as shown in the illustration below.

Follow the instructions provided on your screen to complete the installation. Your computer will shut down automatically and reboot. You will then see the following icon on your desktop. You are ready to use the software. You must now refer to the Securexam Student User Guide and read it carefully before launching the software.

How to test my laptop computer before performing the Qualification Exam? You will find the required instructions in Section 6 of the Securexam Student User Guide that you dowloaded. Once your qualification exam has been saved, you will need to upload your exam on the Software Secure, Inc. web site. To do so, you will need to return to your Account Home Page and select the option “Upload Exam”.

Browse your files, select your exam file saved on your desktop with the extension ssi-response, and upload. You will receive an e-mail from the provider confirming that your laptop computer is working properly.

Important How to notify the CPA Order that you will need a space “for laptop” at the examination center? You must sign the release of disclaimer and send it back to the CPA Order at [email protected] NO LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 23RD , 2013. After this date, we will not guarantee a place at the examination center for your laptop computer, given the required electric installations.
