Understanding the Application Form

The purpose of this application form is to enable the selection committee to get to know you better. We appreciate thoughtful and mature responses, and would encourage you to take the time to come up with answers that best represent you as a person and why you want this scholarship.

End-of-Year Results

Academic performance is part of the criteria, but not the only basis for selection. Please include the results of either your end-of-year or preliminary examinations (whichever is most recent). However, if you have not received them yet, please submit your results from the previous year. If you enter the next stage of the selection process, we will ask for original copies of your most recent results for verification.

The Essay The Essay component will allow you to express your views on issues that you are passionate about or have academic thought over. While the format is entirely up to you, the length of the essay will be restricted to one A4 sheet, double-sided.

Supporting Documents (Optional)

A maximum of three pages of additional information, certificates or testimonials will be accepted. Any material beyond this will be discarded and not taken into account in the selection process. Please include your name at the top left hand corner of each supporting document.

Closing Date

Closing date of applications for the 2014 intake is 16th December 2013 (Monday).

Miscellaneous Questions This section is meant to stimulate your thought process, which will help in the development of your response for the essay section. For this reason, we recommend doing this section before the essay. Please limit your responses to 100 words per question. 1. Do you already have a university course or career in mind? Essay This final component of the application provides an opportunity for you to give us a clearer sense of you as an individual. We encourage you to write about something of direct importance to you. Please restrict yourself to no more than two (2) sides of 1 sheet of A4-sized paper. The essay can be either handwritten or typewritten. In your essay, you may choose to answer the following guiding questions:    

Is there a particular person or experience that has inspired or influenced you to be who you are today? Why do you want to go to a UWC? What qualities would you be able to contribute to a UWC? What are your plans for the future? How would a UWC education be conducive to or factor into that?
