Volunteering at Trelay Farm Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Trelay, we welcome the energy and skills that you bring. To make your stay as rewarding as possible we have set aside dedicated weeks for working volunteers to visit and help us work on our land and buildings. Please refer to our website for dates of this years volunteer weeks. Why volunteer? We believe the experience will be an ideal opportunity for you to find out about Trelay, the people who live here and our values. Volunteering is also an excellent way for us to share our beautiful place with people who wish to have a taste of community living and to learn more about cooperative ways of working. You may also be interested in attending one of our Interest Weekends which consists of a series of presentations and talks covering: The history and values of Trelay; Our legal status; Financial and membership details; Q&A session. Please refer to our website for dates and further information. What’s the work like? The work is a variety of seasonal projects and day to day tasks on and around a busy small holding. Most require a degree of manual labour and working outdoors in all weathers. They may include: preparing the veggie patch in spring; building maintenance and tending the veg patch in the summer; harvesting crops and woodland management in the autumn. We ask that you work an average of 4 hours each day for 5 out of the 7 days. You are most welcome during your stay to relax and join in with all our community activities (parties, walks, visit to the beach etc) and visit the local attractions when your work is done.
What will it cost? For the standard rate of £5 per day we will provide you with food (self serve breakfast; lunch; hearty, home cooked evening meals served communally in the community farmhouse) and ask for £2 per night to cover utilities and other fixed costs. In return we promise to keep you busy with a choice of tasks and an opportunity to skill share. Camping is included in these costs. Should you not wish to camp we can offer a bed in either a caravan or a spare room in one of our homes (subject to availability, please refer to our website for prices) When can I arrive? We’d be delighted if you arrived on Saturday evening (the first day of each volunteer week), so we can settle you in and introduce you to our community members. Stay for the whole working week and if you wish extend your stay, to learn more about living at Trelay through our Interest Weekends, this can be arranged during your stay. Where do I sleep? Bring your tent and pitch up in our camping meadow with wildlife pond. Flush toilets and hot showers are situated near our campsite. Don’t forget your torch! Alternatively you may book a bed in either a caravan or a spare room in one of our homes (please refer to our website for prices). How do I get there? If you choose to come by public transport, we can tell you about buses to Bude and can arrange pick up. Our nearest train station is Exeter with a regular bus service to Bude.
