They provide wood for building and pulp for making paper. They provide habitats (homes) for all sorts of insects, birds and other animals. Many types of fruits and nuts come from trees -- including apples, oranges, walnuts, pears and peaches. Even the sap of trees is useful as food for insects and for making maple syrup -- yum! Trees also help to keep our air clean and our ecosystems healthy. We breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. Trees breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. We're perfect partners! ~http://www.kidzone.ws/plants/trees.htm Last fall the Washington County Land & Water Conservation announced the local 2016 Poster Contest theme – “We All Need Trees”. Open to all public, private and homeschooled students in grades K-12, children had the opportunity to express their artistic talents with more than just words. Washington County received nearly 400 posters from 11 county schools and Riveredge Nature Center. The top three local level winners of each category (grades K-1, 2-3, 4-6, 7-9 & 10-12) will be awarded Visa gift cards, art supplies and a 2016-2017 school calendar highlighting their artwork. All first place winners automatically advanced to the next level of competition for judging in February. Congratulations to the following county winners!
