Dear School Official, Greetings from Salem! I am writing in regards to Oregon Youth Convention, taking place in Salem, Oregon, October 12-14, 2017. This event’s purpose is to provide a gathering place for all Assemblies of God Youth Ministries within the state of Oregon, to celebrate the Lord together. We recognize that participation in this convention requires students to miss 1-2 days of school. We strongly believe this will be time well spent. We do not want to minimize the sacrifice, as we know that it puts more pressure on you and especially the student. However, we would ask you to be sensitive to their desire to participate and be assured that this will be a quality event. “Release Time” provisions in state law provides opportunity for off-campus religious instruction without penalty, and we would hope that this would provide sufficient grounds for an excused absence. I would welcome your response or desire for clarification via phone, mail or e-mail. Thank you for your time and consideration of this matter.
