Zacuto DSLR Gunstock Shooter Setup Instructions 401 W. Ontario, Suite 125 Chicago, IL 60654
1) Unwrap all Zacuto parts from packaging. (some parts are pre-assembled) 2) Locate Mini-baseplate with quick-release adapter.
3) Attach the black 15mm Studio Minimount to 8” rod sticking out of the back right rod hole of the Mini-baseplate. On the black 15mm Studio Minimount, use rod hole closest to 3/8 16 screw hole. Set lever to locked position with the 15mm Studio Minimount adjusted to the angle seen in the picture below.
4) Slide 12” rod with Shoulder Pad about 3 inches through open end of 15mm Studio Minimount. Set lever to locked position. Shoulder pad should be level with Mini-baseplate.
5) Attach Gunstock to front end of the same 12” rod with Shoulder Pad via Gunstock Minimount. Set lever to locked position.
6) Eject quick-release plate from Mini-Baseplate and screw to bottom of your camera.
7) Mount your camera to Mini-baseplate via quick-release plate. 8) If you plan to use a follow focus, at this point, attach Zipgears to your lenses. (See Zipgear video for further instructions on this step.) http://vimeo.com/3254764 9) If you have a Z-Focus, slide it onto the rods on the front of the Minibaseplate and lock down. Engage follow focus with Zipgear. If you do not have a Z-focus, skip this step. (See Zacuto video for further instructions on this step.) http://vimeo.com/3255070
10)Slide Z-grip Z-mount onto one of the two rods on the front of the Mini-baseplate. Set lever to locked position. The picture shows the Z-grip mounted on the right hand rod and offset to the right (recommended for right handed shooters). However the Z-grip can be mounted directly under the lens or off the left rod. I fact the entire rig can be mirrored for left handed/eyed shooters by simply putting the 8” rod that is on the mini-baseplates right side on the left side and following the instructions as normal shifting everything to the left.
11)If you are using a matte box, rod extensions may be necessary at this point. This is especially true with longer lenses. If you have rod extensions for your matte box, attach them now.
12)If you have purchased a Z-Lite for counter-balance, slide it onto the 8” rod sticking out of the back of the Shoulder Pad and lock down. Attach Z-Lite to 8” rod via hole closest to Z-Lite lever with the unused rod hole offset to the right to compensate for the camera canting to the left. If you do not have a Z-Lite, skip this step.
13)Attach Z-Finder to back of Camera. (See Zacuto Z-finder instructions and video for further instructions on this step.)
14)If desired, attach one end of Zacuto Strap to left side of camera. Attach other side of strap to smaller hole in Gunstock as seen in the below pictures. The camera and rig will hang pointing straight down.
15)Adjust all parts and levers for personal comfort. Where ever there is a red lever, you can slide the part or adjust the angle. (See Zacuto video for further instructions on this step.) http://vimeo.com/4896065 Note: When using Gunstock shooters on tripods, you can remove the shoulder pad section completely or when using the power option for monitors and accessories for the Precision Shooter setup as in the picture below, you can loosen and rotate the angled 15mm Studio minimount up to horizontal. Then mount Gunstock Shooter onto your tripod by first attaching your tripod release plate to the bottom of the mini-baseplate if you haven’t already done so. Then slide Shoulder Pad off end of 12” and 8” rods. Slide Doublemount with Battery Plate into its place. Battery Plate should be facing upwards (top).
