ERROR DETECTION STRATEGIES Error detection is one such part of English Language where many a time even the well-versed candidates commit an error. And as some of your important exams are approaching i.e. SBI Clerk and Po, so we have come up with a few tips on how to attempt error detection questions. Firstly, let’s see what sorts of questions are being asked. 1. Errors based on spell errors. For example: Which principal is the functioning of this equipment based on? Instead of ‘principal’ it should be ‘principle’. 2. Errors based on word usage. For example: Sanjeev didn’t call the police as he suspects Raghav’s involvement in the robbery. Instead of ‘suspects’ it should be ‘doubts’. Suspect – to think to be true Doubt – to think to be untrue 3. Errors based on reading ability. For example: The new Basketball team has been not practising for two weeks. The correct pattern is ‘has not been practising’. 4. Errors based on Grammar. These can be based on any topic from Grammar section i.e. Noun, Pronoun, Verb, tense etc. For example: The Young Sheldon along with his pet cat wander in the park every morning. Instead of ‘wander; it should be ‘wanders’. Singular verb is required as verb will be placed according to the former subject i.e. the young Sheldon.

In order to attempt such questions what you can do is opt the following ways: 1. At first, look for the spelling error and error on word usage, if any. Most of the questions are based on incorrect usage of words. 2. After the above step-Read the sentence carefully. Generally, you get the answer in the very first instance. It simply depends on your reading skill or ability. 3. If you do not get the answer in the first instance, read the sentence part by part. Give each part of the sentence a thorough reading so as to know where the error is. Major focus should be on verb agreement and prepositions. 4. And still if you do not find the error, then probably there must not be any. Just be sure of it.(Wicked smile)
