We create a nurturing environment where kids grow, strengthen relationships with caring adult mentors and fellow campers, explore their interests, and build skills in a safe and friendly environment. Come join us and let’s make 2014 the best summer yet!

We believe

that the child’s family provides the foundation for his/her success, and welcome your involvement. We also understand the importance of communication between the program and your home, and strive to keep the family informed.

CHILD DEVELOPMENT DAY CAMPS

A

t the Child Development Programs, we emphasize the importance of play. It may seem a light-hearted premise, but play builds serious skills! Play allows children to explore individual creativity while stretching the imagination, increasing dexterity, and developing emotional, physical, and cognitive abilities. When your family chooses our Summer Day Camp, your child receives opportunities for constructive play, interacts in a safe and respectful environment, and builds great memories with good friends. Special opportunities await every child who attends our Summer Day Camps — no cell phones, video games, or televisions required!

Key Components of our Camps Safety First  Low staff to child ratios  Campers assigned to a specific camp leader  Annual professional development sessions completed by program staff each year (includes Health and Safety, CPR, and First Aid)  Licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare; a Keystone STARS facility Stimulating and Diverse Activities  Theme-based programming that stimulates minds while incorporating physical activities and character development  Outdoor games and events  Swimming and water play  Field Trips  Special guests and events Family Involvement  Parents/Guardians receive weekly information from group staff to highlight activities and provide reminders  Communication with families to share child’s successes or discuss areas of concern  Qualified administrators available to answer questions/address issues  Opportunities for parents/guardians to share in special events, join us for celebrations, or accompany children on field trips

Mission

The Y makes part of our summer mission to create fun activities while learning essential life skills that build positive and resilient self-image in a safe, supportive environment.

Leadership

We believe everyone possesses potential for great leadership. Campers gain a newfound sense of self-confidence and empowerment through team-building, problem-solving and special challenges.

Energy

We aim to energize each camper’s mind, body, and spirit as they take on sports and fitness, health challenges, educational experiences, and more.

Adventure

We offer campers unusual and exciting experiences, including time in the great outdoors with discoveries campers remember for years to come.

Imagination

“Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.”- Albert Einstein. Campers explore the arts and discover outlets of self-expression and creativity.

Curiosity

Open up new worlds and possibilities as campers' minds are encouraged to be active and observant by taking on a variety of experiments, games, and fun activities.

Vision

Do you know what you want to be when you grow up? It’s never too early or too late to have dreams and aspirations. We encourage kids to dream big and explore limitless possibilities.

Traditions

There’s something magical and exciting about sharing celebrating our favorite traditions.

Responsibility

Changing the world has never been this much fun! We guide our campers through outreach that makes an impact on their community and their planet.

Innovation

Campers learn how to move out of the box to accomplish tasks, solve problems, and build challenging projects. You never know when the next great invention comes to life...it might get its start this summer.

Friendship

We encourage kids to make new connections; to appreciate and celebrate friendships — old and new. Campers share some of their favorite games, build relationships through various, activities and build a lifetime of memories together.

ADMISSION POLICY

REGISTRATION POLICY

The Ligonier Valley YMCA operates a non-profit organization open to all; the program admits children regardless of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, or ancestry. The Y accepts children with special needs if we possess the capacity to provide a safe, supportive environment for him/her. The center registers children by order of enrollment. Once we reach full capacity, we maintain a waiting list. Administrators contact families on the list should a vacancy occur.

SCHOLARSHIPS At the Ligonier Valley Y, we design programs and activities to benefit persons of all backgrounds, and base our fees on the cost of providing each program. While we expect participants to pay their fair share, we offer financial assistance dollars to assist any individual or family that wishes to participate, but cannot afford the fee. All applicants for financial assistance (provided through our “Open Door” Scholarship Campaign) must complete an application and provide proof of household income by submitting most recent tax return. 1. Check the appropriate box on your completed registration form 2. Complete the “Open Door” Scholarship Application 3. Return the scholarship application to Kathi Betton, and include copies of your most recent Federal 1040 Income Tax Return.

Questions? Call us at 724-238-7580!

Parents/Guardians must complete the form in its entirety, including the child’s projected attendance schedule. Registration requires a $25.00 enrollment fee per child (maximum $65.00 per family) for the summer. CHILD DEVELOPMENT CAMPERS may choose the weeks of attendance, but must register for a minimum of 3 days per week of attendance. Some field trips (admission fees) included at no additional cost. Administrators may charge small fees throughout the summer, however, for “mini” field trips, transportation fees, or special events. Upon enrollment, the Child Development Programs provide the family with a registration packet to return prior to the child’s first day of camp. Participants in SPORTS, AQUATICS, and PROGRAM Camps must register by the FRIDAY BEFORE the start date of his/her chosen camp. The administration charges a $5.00 LATE FEE if family registers child after the cut-off date.

Please note: The Ligonier Valley YMCA reserves the right to change projected schedules, including field trips. The camps alert families as soon as possible in the event of significant modifications to the daily or weekly schedule.

CAMP LOCATION AND HOURS OF OPERATION The Child Development Programs’ Summer Day Camp operates at the Ligonier Valley YMCA, 110 West Church Street, Ligonier, PA, 15658. Campers also travel (on foot or by school bus) for activities.

“DROP-OFF” PROCEDURES Please pull into the curb-cut at the front of the Y building. Turning off your ignition; please escort your child(ren) into the building. Sign your child(ren) into the program, and leave camper(s) in the direct care of a Summer Day Camp Staff Member.

“PICK-UP” PROCEDURES Participants may arrive at the Y building for pick-up as designated by the child care agreement. Please pull into the curb-cut at the front of the Y building. Turning off your ignition, please enter the building and escort camper(s) directly from the care of the Y Summer Day Camp staff member. Please note: YMCA staff release children ONLY to those designated on the pick-up list (age 18 or older). Persons designated for child pick-up should bring photo identification to verify authorization. Our camp day ends by 4:00 PM; the Child Development Programs close at 6:00 PM. Parent/guardian failure to arrive by 6:00 PM may result in overtime charges to the family’s account.

MEALS, SNACKS, AND DRINKS The program provides a afternoon snack. Families must supply a nutritious lunch with a drink, and may send a morning snack with the child.  Families sending lunches must avoid items requiring cooking/reheating.  Children must also bring a filled water bottle (marked with child’s name) DAILY.

CHANGING WEEKLY THEMES offer campers a variety of options. Games, creative arts, field trips, and special events extend topics and keep kids engaged.

FIELD TRIPS AND BUSSING Local school districts or charter bus companies provide transportation for all trips.

SPECIAL NEEDS The Y opens enrollment to all children, and the YMCA works with children of all abilities. Families possess a duty to disclose significant medical, physical, or behavioral needs at the time of enrollment. Please note: Due to the largegroup format of camp, the Y cannot provide one-on-one care except on an intermittent basis.

SWIMMING All camps enjoy swimming trips intermittently throughout the summer. Lower ratios exist for all swim sessions and lifeguards remain present, in addition to camp staff.
