Introduction

Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Established in 1958, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TUTCM) is one of the earliest universities of TCM in China. TUTCM is divided into 5 areas of study: Medical, Science, Arts, Management and Engineering. The University offers 3 first-grade and 19 second-grade M.D. programs, 7 first-grade and 36 second-grade Master’s programs, 21 undergraduate programs and 3 post-doctoral fellowships. There are 6 affiliated hospitals. Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Tuina, TCM Internal Medicine are the state key programs. The First and Second Teaching Hospitals of TUTCM are ranked First Class and national drug clinic research center, together have more than 2,000 beds and 16 clinical teaching and research offices. The First Teaching Hospital has been approved by the state as the largest Acupuncture & Moxibustion center in China, National Clinical Research Center of Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Provincial Demonstration Hospital of TCM. International University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TUTCM), authorized by the State Education Committee of the People’s Republic of China, was established in 1992 in TUTCM, and has become the national center for foreign students in TCM education. Each year there are nearly 2,000 students from 60 countries/areas studying in the university. TUTCM has established cooperation with universities, research and medical institutions from more than 50 countries and enjoys a high reputation. English-taught Programs Short-term Study Program (1 year) 1. One-year Acupuncture Program for English Speakers Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Tuina is the Key program of Tianjin; M.D. program in 1998; one postdoctoral fellowship. In 2001, Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Tuina was approved as state key program by Ministry of Education. One-year Acupuncture Program is for foreign students who are interested in TCM and Acupuncture & Moxibustion. The program covers Theories of TCM, Diagnostics of TCM, Acupuncture Meridians and Collaterals, Acupuncture Points, Chinese Massage, Physical Education, Culture of TCM, Acupuncture Treatment, Manipulation Techniques, 3-month Clinical Practice. Master’s Program (3 years) 1. Chinese Materia Medica Key Program of Tianjin City. The Chinese Materia Medica Pharmacology Laboratory and the Cytobiology Laboratory are thirdlevel laboratories of State Administration of TCM of P.R.China. Chinese Materia Medica Pharmacology Laboratory is also the key laboratory of Tianjin City. The program mainly covers Chinese Materia Medica, Theories of TCM, Chinese Language, Study Progress on TCM Preparation, TCM Prescription, Research and Development of TCM New Drugs and etc. The laboratory is well equipped.
