KentPlayer: Initial setup Add the block in Moodle Moodle is used to manage authentication and access to recordings, and so the first thing you need to do is to add the “KentPlayer” block to all modules for which you plan to record content. To do this: 1. Go to the relevant Moodle module and Turn Editing On. 2. Scroll the left-hand menu down to the very bottom and choose Add a block. 3. From the list that appears, choose KentPlayer. 4. The block will now appear on the right-hand side (though on narrower screens it will be at the bottom of the page, below the module’s content sections). For a first-time user who has not signed the user agreement, the base of the block will display a link to the user agreement:
Once you have signed the user agreement (see next page), the KentPlayer block will look like that below: 1. Links to any existing recordings (there won’t be any yet). 2. Your access level in this module – you need to be a creator to make recordings in this module’s folder. 3. A direct link to the folder settings on the player.kent.ac.uk server. 4. A help icon which, when clicked, displays links to support documentation. 5. A link to the Acceptable Use Policy, which explains what students may and may not do with the recordings.
Quick Tip: Podcasts are disabled by default. To switch them on and allow students to subscribe to the audio-only or video version of a module’s lectures, use the folder settings link to open that screen in KentPlayer and check the top box, ‘Enable podcast feed’. The settings screen will have opened in a new window and can then be safely closed to return to Moodle.

Give consent to be recorded Before you can use the recording software you first need to give consent. The text terms and conditions within the KentPlayer block is a link, clicking which takes you to a choice of user agreements. 1. Click on the text terms and conditions. A choice of user agreements will appear.
2. Click on your role (academic/non-academic) and then take your time reading the agreement. Guidance notes and references are included to explain why certain rights are required. 3. If you’re happy with the terms then click the “Sign agreement” button at the bottom of the page.
The block will re-sync to give you Creator access to the module, plus your own “[Username]’s Private Recordings” folder, which you can use to store test recordings.
Setup on your own computer Our licence allows you to install the Panopto software onto your own computer. Note that you still need to have signed the user agreement to be able to sign in to the server (player.kent.ac.uk) and add recordings to your module or personal folder.
On a Mac or PC
Browse to https://player.kent.ac.uk/. Sign in using your Kent IT account. At the top right, under your name, choose the ‘Download Panopto’ link. Choose either a Mac or PC option from the ‘Panopto’ list (not the Remote Recorder). Run the downloaded file – it will probably be in the downloads folder on your computer.
On an iOS device Search the app store for Panopto and install the app (note that if you cannot find the app store on your device, swipe down from the top of the screen to search the device). When using the app, the server is player.kent.ac.uk and you should sign in with your Kent IT account, choosing that option from the drop down list if necessary.
On an Android device Important: the android app does not currently allow you to make recordings from the app, only view them. You can upload recordings made without the app, using icon at top right when logged in. Search the Google play store for Panopto and install the app. Open the app and choose sign in. The ‘address’ is player.kent.ac.uk. Sign in using your Kent IT account.
