INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING VISUALIZATION MEP – 100 LAB SHEET-8

Time: 2hrs

Question 1: Using different commands in the Autodesk Inventor create the 3 Dimensional model of the following solid part.

Imagine the three orthographic views (III angle projections) and make a free hand sketch (without dimensions) on a A4 sheet. Using that and your understanding of orthographic views as reference answer the following questions on the same sheet and submit it to the TA. a. In how many of the views will the edge AB be drawn as a hidden line? Also, if I were to draw a Back view, would AB feature as a hidden line or a solid line? Justify your answer. b. In the right side view CD features as a solid line. If I were to draw a left side view would CD feature as a hidden line? Justify your answer. c. In how many of the views is the feature E (Circular hole) seen as a circle and how many views is it seen as a rectangle? Create the 2 D drawing of the created part file using the following steps. 1. Open the MEP100 format drawing file. This will open a new drawing with a default file name MEP100.dwg (you can later save this drawing with the same name as that of the part file name or a different one. It will have an extension .dwg). 2. In the “Place Views” tab, click “Base”, which will be treated as front view of the part. 3. In the “Place Views” tab, click “Projected” and move the mouse at the left, right and top side of the “Front” view to obtain the corresponding views and then click right mouse button and click create. 4. In the “Annotate” tab, click “Dimension”. Add dimension to the drawing view by clicking the line/feature (that need to be dimensioned) and then dragging the mouse to a suitable distance to place the dimension line. Click right mouse button and select “Done”. Finally, take a print out of the drawing and submit it to the TA for evaluation.

Question 2: Create the 3 Dimensional model of the following solid part.

Imagine the four orthographic views and make a rough sketch on a A4 sheet. Using that and your understanding of orthographic views as reference answer the following questions on the same sheet and submit it to the TA . a. In the front view and the top view, which of the features out of A, B and C will be hidden? b. If I were to make a back view of this solid model, what would be the shape of the feature C in that drawing? Would it be depicted by hidden lines or solid lines? Please elaborate. c. In the right side view of the above model, the inclined edges of feature A and feature C are overlapping. How would you depict that in the drawing? Justify your answer. d. In the left side view of the above solid, the feature A is hidden while feature C is not hidden. How would this be depicted in the drawing? Justify your answer. Create the orthographic projections of the created part file with appropriate dimensions in MEP 100.dwg format. Take a print out of created orthographic projections and submit it to the TA for evaluation. Question 3: Make solid model of the object shown below; obtain the orthographic projections; take a print out and submit for evaluation.
