STATISTICS IN EXCEL - TUTORIAL FOR MAC Tutorial 5. How to Create a Pivot Table To demonstrate how to create a Pivot Table we will use the British Marketing data set available on the course webpage. 1. Open the file bmrbxl.xls and select any range on the data you want to analyze. Here, I have selected all the cells.

2. Click on the Data tab and you should see the Pivot Table option.

3. After clicking on the Pivot Table button, a Create PivotTable dialog box pops up. We want all the data and we want to select the New Worksheet option.

4. Hit OK. You should now get a new worksheet that looks like this:

5. Go to the Pivot Table Builder box on the right (the black one) and drag the ``soc’’ variable into the box labeled “Row Labels”. You will see the following in this box:

6. The Pivot Table at this stage will look like

7. Next, go back to the Pivot Table Builder box and drag the ``soc’’ variable into the box labeled “Σ Values” You should have:

8. The default is a summation. If you are interested in a count table, you must click in the “i” sign on the right of Sum of Soc. A dialog box will pop up. Select Count and hit OK. You should see:

9. The final count table (which we saw on Lecture 1) is:
