CVHS Receives Funding
Plan Ahead for Mandatory Leave Days
The Bernice Barbour Foundation gave the CVHS a $50,000 gift as the second part of their $100,000 commitment to our community spay-neuter program for shelter animals. The funding supports surgical training experience for veterinary students and is conducted through the Teaching Hospital and at distant sites in neighboring communities.
While it is a year away, administration wants to be sure you have ample time to plan. Please note that the 2008 holiday break will require employees to take two mandatory leave days—Wednesday, Dec. 31 and Friday, Jan. 2. Be sure to save 16 hours of annual leave when planning your time off.

Dr. Oomens’ research specialty is molecular virology. His focus and main interests are the mechanisms by which viruses enter and exit host cells and how knowledge of these mechanisms can be exploited for vaccine and therapeutic purposes. His current efforts concern the human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) because it has a huge medical impact on infants and the elderly in the world and there is no vaccine. In his spare time, Tom likes to marvel at how his toddler son discovers the world around him. With any time left, he likes to bike, garden, do-it-yourself projects and meditate.
