Best Practices for Windows 8.x – WH ConnectProxy BEST PRACTICES FOR WINDOWS 8.X This document offers helpful details and instructions for how to best use WH ConnectProxy (ConnectProxy.wilmerhale.com) on a Windows 8.x computer. It is intended for use as a first option if you are experiencing any issues when trying to connect. To ensure that you are able to successfully connect to firm resources using WH ConnectProxy, this document outlines the following requirements: (click on the requirement to go directly to that section of the document)  Check minimum software versions  Access the correct address for WH ConnectProxy  Use Internet Explorer to access WH ConnectProxy  Browser Log on Issue with Chrome, Firefox, and IE 10+  Use the latest release of Citrix Receiver  Add WH ConnectProxy to the Trusted Sites list and Popup Blocker  Add WH ConnectProxy to the Compatibility View settings (Internet Explorer 11 only) In addition to these basic requirements, you will find other best practices for WH ConnectProxy including:       

MINIMUM REQUIRED SOFTWARE VERSIONS Please click here to see the components required to use WH ConnectProxy (ConnectProxy.wilmerhale.com) from a Windows 8.x computer. H OW TO CHECK THE VERSION OF INTERNET EXPLORER To check the version of Internet Explorer: 1. 2.

USE INTERNET EXPLORER

WH CONNECTPROXY

WH ConnectProxy is designed to work with Internet Explorer 10 (in Standard mode) on Windows 8.x. Chrome and Firefox may work but Internet Explorer is recommended. To launch Internet Explorer in Standard mode press the W I N D O W S key and then select the I N T E R N E T E X P L O R E R I C O N in the bottom left hand corner as shown in the first screenshot below. BROWSER LOG ON ISSUE WITH CHROME , FIREFOX, AND IE 10+ With Chrome, Firefox, and newer versions of Internet Explorer (10 and above) you may be prompted to install Citrix each time you log in. This is due to these browsers not supporting Citrix plugin detection. You can still log in and use ConnectProxy with them by clicking S K I P T O L O G O N .

THE LATEST RELEASE OF

CITRIX RECEIVER

There may be connection issues when using older versions of Citrix Receiver with Windows 8. For best results, use the latest Citrix Receiver. Download Citrix Receiver here. WH ConnectProxy must be added to the Trusted Sites list and Pop Up Blocker exceptions list in Internet Explorer.

ADD WH CONNECT PROXY TO TRUSTED SITES LIST It is necessary to add the address for WH ConnectProxy to the Trusted Sites list and Popup blocker in Internet Explorer. 1. 2. 3. 4.

OTHER TIPS FOR YOUR WINDOWS 8.X COMPUTER SAVE YOUR WORK FREQUENTLY

AVOID DATA LOSS

It is recommended to save open documents frequently while working remotely through the Full Desktop. This will help prevent data loss if your Internet connection goes down or your session times out. If you do plan on being away from your session for more than a few minutes it is recommended to save and close your documents so that your changes synch back into WorkSite. You can reopen them when you return to your session.

Follow the steps below to correctly log out of WH ConnectProxy. 1.

Log out of all running Citrix applications such as Outlook or WH Full Dekstop. Make sure to properly close the Citrix application. For example: a.

Next, click the D O O R I C O N on the toolbar in the top right hand corner of the Applications window to log out completely.

NATIVE

PLUG -IN TO SEE LOCAL PRINTERS

If you notice that your local printers do not appear inside of your Citrix sessions (i.e. the WH Full Desktop) then the issue may be related to the plug-in you are using. There are two plug-ins available: Native and Java. Only the Native plug-in offers local printing capability. To check which plug-in you are using: 1. 2.

Sign-in to W H C O N N E C T P R O X Y . When the Applications Portal window appears, click S E T T I N G S .

On the Settings screen confirm the Native client is selected. If it is not selected, click C H A N G E C L I E N T , select N A T I V E from the list, and click S A V E .

All new Citrix sessions that you open will now use the Native plug-in and you will be able to print to your local printers from inside the sessions.

SESSION OPEN

If you are going to step away from your computer for more than a few minutes it is recommended that you log out of your Citrix session (Such as the Full Desktop or Outlook). If you remain logged in, and your computer goes into Sleep mode, the Citrix session may not work correctly when your computer is back online.

REBOOT

YOUR COMPUTER

It may be necessary to reboot your computer if you are unable to sign in to WH ConnectProxy. It is also a good idea to reboot at least once a week, even if you aren’t experiencing issues, as this will allow your system to install updates and will help with performance and stability.

If you are experiencing issues accessing the WH ConnectProxy sign-in page or slow performance when signed in, it may be a good idea to power cycle your modem and router. To reboot your modem and router: 1. 2. 3. 4.

Shut down your computer. Unplug the power cable from both the modem and router. Wait 30 seconds then reconnect the power to your modem. Wait 30 additional seconds then reconnect the power to your router.

It may take a few minutes for each device to fully power back on and Internet access to be restored. Some Internet Service Providers provide a Modem/Router all-in-one unit so you may only have one device to power cycle.
