Seminars led by faculty members

The aim of such seminars is not only to present particularly interesting case studies but to reflect in general on how historians may engage with the conceptual repertoire of cultural history in order to discover new perspectives and insights on the traditional topics of political and social history. In all cases seminars are based on newly-finished research projects, published monographs, or university courses that are taught in the region. In order to avoid lecture-like format of interactions between participants and faculty members, and to focus discussion on exchange of scholarly experience, participants are asked to choose a topic from a proposed range of modules, which is closest to his/her field of expertise and to prepare in advance a list of useful bibliography or make a short presentation of a research-base case that can be further used in undergraduate teaching. Seminars during this session will cover the following themes: Reassessing Power, Resistance and Negotiation: Cultural Hegemony, Social Discipline, and Technologies of Power Mapping the “Social,” Shaping the “Self”: Social Science, Politics and Identity (Andriy Zayarnyuk) How to Approach the Legitimization of Power?
